The Unofficial "Official" Match Day Thread. Mighty Boro v Bristol City.

Scapegoating just the keeper is wrong in my mind. The defence are
all at sea and whilst I know Betteneli needs bombing out the problems run deeper.

34 goals conceded now is one of the worst now in the top half of the Championship and bearing in mind we struggle up front as well this is a massive concern. Another issue that needs sorting out in the Summer if we want to challenge next season.
Sensible post. We lurch from very good to very poor too many times, I'm not sure why but there seems to be a fundamental problem.

We've played far too high. They caught us out before they scored and we didn't learn. Blaming Bettinelli is just not paying attention. When you're getting one on ones that start at the half way line it's not the keeper you should be looking at.
Get Johnson on, play kebano wide right. Move to four at the back.
Yes you can't play that high against a pacey player like wells and a powerful runner like Dhediou, especially when we are not putting any pressure on the midfielder with the ball!!

They are doing a job on us, just letting us come on to them and then picking us off. We need to be smarter at keeping our shape.

Is about right with our squad. We will have days like last week at Reading but unfortunately we wilk also have days like today and Rotherham a few weeks ago.

We will probably finish 8th or 9th. Which is better than last year.

However if you are honest we are no where near the top Championship teams at the moment.

Just a bit of an explanation of why Betinelli never came for that ball:

There are 45 mph gusts of wind, it's been windy as feck all-day
Judging ball flight is an absolute nightmare when it's like that
The striker can gamble and has nothing to lose
The keeper can come for it, but has all to lose

Then, what caused 99% of the problem:
They wellied the ball out from the 6-yard box, at that point, all of our defenders were within 40 yards of THEIR goal
Our last man was Howson, and even he was in their half

I don't put any fault on Bettinelli whatsoever for the first two goals, to make it clear.

But he was lucky that McNair stopped one shot, and was terrible for their third.

Warnock needs to make changes, I'll be fuming if he doesn't.

Baffled that we've played such a high line in high winds.

Apart from the score, the bigger worry for me is how we are so inconsistent from game to game.

We looked a really good team v Reading, tonight we look like relegation fodder.

Totally agree with this. I know they say in the championship on their day anyone can beat anyone else, but our inconsistency over recent months has been crazy ridiculous. It is proper Jekyll and Hyde stuff.

First goal I do

Those defending Bettinelli - even at junior level goalkeepers are taught either come for the ball or stay on your line, never start to come for it and change your mind. If he'd come flying out, as long as he didn't foul Wells, then he would have made the striker work for it rather than making it as easy as possible for him. I see schoolboy errors from him every week.
