The 9am figures not disclosed yet?

The tiers worked, but worked about 10-20% less than they were expecting, this is also a failure too mind, but it gave a lesson in how to use the tiers better (more cautiously).

The problem they had last year was they were 5 steps behind, they introduced tiers too late and then stayed in tiers too long, when they should have been locking down earlier. The tiers were not bad, but the timing was terrible, same with the lockdowns.

New strains are unavoidable, there's going to be new strains until the entire world is either immune, vaccinated or coronavirus doesn't exist (not happening). We can't stay locked down waiting for new strains, we just need to get better at detecting them and vaccinating for them. By "going mad" I mean this could be a mass of people meeting up with family and then mates, for meals or drinks, all at the same time, and mixing groups, I don't mean going to Magaluf ;)

The appetite for the lockdowns is changing now, very quickly it seems, as people are very aware that 95% of the deaths were from one specific ground and that specific group should now be 99% covered from death (providing they got vaccinated). It's a harder sell to the public when there's no death, but the strange thing is this lag in the deaths is helping the lockdown at the minute, in a few weeks it won't be and it's always 3-4 weeks behind of course.

I can see why they're being cautious, as they were not last time when they should have been. The problem was, last time there was data telling us to be cautious and proactive, this time there doesn't appear to be data showing how we will go back into excess deaths.

Just to be clear, it makes little difference to myself, I'm fine locking down till May if I have to, I work from home and I'm quite secure, but there's a lot of others who will be increasingly thinking "what are we waiting for?". I think they have more justification now, certainly, 10 x more than we will have had on March the 8th last year.
I am not so sure the tier system worked at all. Once in a tier the only way was up. This suggests that even tier 3 did very little to stop infection rates rising, albeit better than tier 1.

I suspect that lockdown apetite will wane as the most vulnerable are vaccinated. We all want to get back to some kind of normality.

The problem with new strains when you are just over a peak is that they may impact much more if you are still seeing high numbers of fatalities.

Anyway kick off, chat later.

I'm just getting very frustrated by the language used to justify lockdown measures bear knows that, that said apologies to you @bear66.

Your anecdotal words are worth nothing mind, who are these friends in the 30-50 age group you talk about? 2 people? 30 people? Just saying words to fit your argument? Don't worry about replying I'm not trying to start a fight in a phone box, have a good Saturday Andy UTB.
It’s just caution, which for once might be welcome, from the lot in blue ties. But to be honest this caution should have been applied last March, or September, or December, It was more relevant then. Less understandable for Mar 8th onwards, but nothings confirmed yet. It might just be that once we lift, we lift for good, although how anyone could guarantee that I do not know.

It’s no more anecdotal than your claims to represent the country. I’m talking maybe 200, probably 10 family, 50 from different friend groups and the rest from work and day to day contacts. I would say 90% of those are supporting, but not many work in hospitality.
Anyway, match is on 2-0 👍UTB

I think that was largely winter too, it was always going up, it just went up at a more manageable rate, but everywhere was 1-2 tiers too low or slow to enter. Aye enough know, game is on 2-0👌

You speak to 200 people about their views on lockdown stop chatting absolute nonsense.

My information comes from comments section on any single news piece not in the guardian.

Talk of “anecdotal words” yet in this very thread you seem to have elected yourself vox populi. Where is your evidence to allow you to proclaim that?
In a message board filled with crazy claims that’s definitely the craziest and most arrogant I’ve heard

Easily, don’t you? I manage that mainly working from home! Sorry for knowing a lot of people.

I talk to about 500 wouldn't claim to know their in depth views on lockdown. 😂

And no I'm not a bully. Get back to it lad you've got to chat to some friends on zoom about lockdown.

What do you talk to them about, or do you just tell them what they think?

Well about 50 of them I’ve probably spoken to or known very well for my entire life, or since I was about 10. You could say I know these people well, better than you know people in online comments sections.
As for the other lot, you find that people often talk about the number 1 thing in the news when waiting for meetings on site, or general supplier chats/ meetings. Again I’ve known these people more than you know your comments section buddies.

No idea what world you live in, it sounds horrendous.

Planet Alvez must be a wild and dangerous place! I imagine it's like Mos Isley

No see I talk to plenty of friends and they think very differently to your 200. The reason I referenced comments rather than my friends is for the precise reason that I have no impact on them and are completely detached from them. My life is not horrendous thanks.

That's not really fair. You dismissed @Andy_W Comments as being anecdotal then said your position is formed on identical evidence

Fair enough, so at least now you get that your viewpoint is not that of the entire country, as you claimed.
I see comments supporting my argument too, bit strange that you only recognise comments from one side, but that’s entirely up to you. The people I talk to, my family, my friends tend to align with the polls very well too, I think the last one I saw had 80% support for lockdowns a month ago. It’s probably lower now, but would doubt it’s less than half. So nowhere near your claims that the country doesn’t want it, and nowhere near people on here being a “vocal minority”. More like a vocal majority, if anything.

With regards to your friends, by “impacting on them”, do you try and tell them how to think? Or do you let them have an opinion?

Those polls are the same as they would be on here. They only have around 3000-5000 responses. Out of a population of 67,000,000 it's a small snapshot.

Majority of areas under 200 cases per 100k now. That's only roughly 100 more than August last year.

I generally don't talk to my friends about it at all, were all absolutely sick of it so just talk about fun things to be honest and plans for when we're out.

I can't believe you would quote a poll done by the likes of yougov and claim it shows anything apart from what it wants you to show. Last time they posted one the Twitter page below it was hilarious.

Unlike you I wouldn't claim to know the feelings of '200' friends because it would make me look absolutely ludicrous and is completely unverifiable. See you can see on any single comment piece related to Covid on the BBC / mirror / Twitter / daily mail that what I'm saying is reflected there.

Finally you call me a bully and then tell me that my world is horrendous. Pot kettle sir. Get chatting to your 200 mates and get me an update chief, maybe post a graph of their views intricately. Hahaha lunatic.
