Only fools and horses

I’ve been bored so I’ve been recording old episodes of Del Boy on gold.

in “strangers on the shore”, the line when 10 year old Damien says “don’t touch me batty boy” to boycie when boycie turns up at Del’s flat and tries to get a bed for the night in Damiens room gets edited out

yet in its only rock and roll. When Rodney tries to make it in the music industry, Del is allowed to say everyone In the music business is Stoke on Trent and does a limp wristed gesture.

Speaking as someone who, if they lived amongst cockneys, might be described as Stoke on Trent, and would freely admit to being a batty boy, I kinda don’t get it.

Love Fools & horses, watched all episodes time & time again & it never fails to have me laughing, great series 👍

Is it because a batty boy is someone who would be disliked, therefore potentially offensive and Stoke on Trent, bent, which I can only say my gay mates, and you by the sounds of it, wouldn‘t be offended by 🤷‍♂️

Edit: batty boy is also Jamaican, is there a race concern?

it’s a complicated world to navigate.

Doesn’t make sense to me. I thought batty boy and bent/bender were the same.

course the answer is anyone Under 25 is offended too easily lol

I love that bit, you're not kidding 😁
Watched it a few hours ago, it’s a joke about del’s favourite meal being duck a’la orange and wondering how to say it in french.
It’s Cunard
And like rodney points out, it’s nothing to do with the QE2

There was a good bit in Citizen Smith that I always remember when Ken went Hare Krishna and was quietly chanting "Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna". The villain they fear turned up and Tucker joined in the chant singing "Harry Fenning!! , Harry Fenning!!" 😁

When grandad gets arrested in Spain;

Rodders: “you was gun running during the civil war????”
Grandad “well that’s the best time to do it Rodney”

or when uncle Albert was on trial:

proescuter “you say you were overseas but your military record states you spent 4 years on the Isle of Wight, hardly overseas is it?”
Uncle Albert: “you wanna try walking it pal”

Two bits of faultless logic that even now make me chuckle

Citizen Smith 👍👉

I think I’m correct in saying there’s an episode of Citizen Smith called “only fools and horses”.
Just seems a shame Gold feel the need to censor certain lines. Unnecessary in my view but wtf do I know

Batty boy would be considered a homophobic slur whereas stoke on trent (bent) could be interpreted in a number of ways - someone who is bent is corrupt, as in a 'bent copper'

I dunno though, just guessing

Except del said they are all Stoke on Trent did a limp wrist action and followed it up with a line about needing to watch “your deaf and dumb (bum?). My guess is that batty boy could be seen to be racist - even though it was a child saying it to a grown adult (and both were white Caucasian)!!!

seems you can get away with anything using C0ckney rhyming slang !!!!!
