How bad was Brad Jones.

If the lock down goes on long enough maybe we move on to Erimus74's worst 12.

That might be fun.

Probably harder work for him as well.

Very very bad in fact I was amazed the club were so dependent on him.
I watched him make a rick in the U19 game so he had that in his game.

we gave some truly shocking keepers

I remember the day Liverpool came in for him, and we knocked back the first offer. I couldn’t believe it, one that we knocked back a couple a million and 2 it actually worked and Liverpool came back in with an improved bid

Go down as the best value sale that for me

Jones was tall and had ability but too many mistakes in him and not commanding. I don’t think he had the temperament, but once a crowd loses confidence in you, as a goalie you’re pretty much finished.

Turnbull made some amazing saves but also a few ricks.

The best keeper we had at that time was Sam Russell, but unfortunately he wasn’t quite big enough.

Sh*te.

Proper sh*te.

One of the goals in the home leg against Staua was his fault if I remember correctly and there were plenty more that have faded in to the ether.

Turnbull and Jones “battling” to be our #1 keeper was a particular low point.

My biased recollection was that Brad Jones never dived & somehow the ball just went straight past him into the corners. Ross Turnbull was the opposite, he dived early & then there was a deflection which took the ball past him into the to other corner

With Jones his positioning was brutal at times. I remember a one on one with Henry during one of our regular maulings by Arsenal where he practically gave him an open goal. Might have been the 7-0.

He was frustrating as at times he could look a competent keeper but as said I think he didn’t have the confidence. Seemed a nice bloke tho and I was glad he ended his career quite well in Holland.

I actually don't think he was a bad as people suggest - I didn't think so at the time and I still don't think that now.

Ben Roberts on the other hand.....

Sunderland away and his punch dive that left the ball behind for an empty net goal.

Yes he was as bad as people recall.

I think if a keeper has an error/rick in him ( and everyone knows it) then you should avoid see also brad guzan another poor error prone keeper.

I'm going to use a phrase I hate here but 'he was a decent shot stopper'. But that is the very least any goalkeeper should be, his positional play and flapping at crosses was so poor. He lost us the FA Cup quarter final at Goodison by flapping at crosses.
