Petition to have the Ref sacked

Like Warnock said in his post match interview about VAR, you shouldn’t need it for something that blatant. How the referee has missed that is beyond belief and his ability to referee should be in question. An official cannot be missing an incident like that. Not at any level.

You would think with a serious incident like this, there would have to be a fact finding interview, to get to the bottom of this, to find out if it was incompetence or wilful neglect.

His only excuse is that he can't see it. Surely he didn't see it and thought it a legal tackle?

If he hasn't seen it, he's in the wrong position. Either outcome leading to the conclusion that he is unable to referee a football match to the required level.

Let’s not forget all referees are humans they make mistakes. Some mistakes are bigger than others, but like yourselves I’m sure you go out to do the job the best you can.

theres a lot of chip on shoulder Middlesbrough mentality when it comes to refs, a few of you could do with growing up

Only trouble is, we're the Boro. Nobody cares, least of all the authorities.
And although that answer's at odds with the post directly above this one, I stand by it.

In the industry I work an injury like that would result in an extensive enquiry to learn lessons and put measures in place to prevent it happening again.

Why should football be any different?

They are worried about brain damage from heading the ball aren’t they?

Why not worry about brain damage from kicking somebody in the head?

I think you need to come into the modern world.

I'd like to think of myself as a reasonable, fair-minded man, but honestly, I've absolutely had it with referees. I'm now at the point where every time I hear or see a story about a referee being attacked, punched or verbally abused, no matter who the culprit is, my first thought is "the ref probably deserved it". My friends tell me my attitude towards referees is over the top, immature and not in keeping with my usual demeanour. But decades of supporting the Boro will do that to you. I've been angry before, I'm angry tonight, and no doubt I'll be angry again very soon.

You might need to talk to someone if you feel the victim of an assault deserves it.

Spot on (y)
The issue here is that symptoms of any long lasting damage can be delayed for years.
This is an issue which has to be treated seriously.

Completely agree, football is no different to any other industry, safety measures should always be top of the agenda, and a proper investigation should happen, to learn lessons.

When I watched various games today and saw yellow cards handed out and free kicks given for incidents which were trivial and trifling compared with what happened at the Riverside today , I realised that nothing matters to officialdom but the Premier League.

It is a disgrace that an incident such as the one which occurred here today should be beyond the boundaries of any appeal or recompense. Middlesbrough FC had a player seriously assaulted and nothing will be done.
As for this ref, he is incompetent.

Imagine the outcry if this had happened to a Man City or Liverpool player. It would be on the back page of every newspaper for days. As said above, the authorities only really care about the Premier League, more specifically the ’big 6‘ and where the money is.

Exactly. Look at the reaction of a few of our fans on here who seem to think we're exaggerating the situation or going overboard. So imagine what the powers that be think of us and any sort of appeal. I guess us 'small' clubs just have to suck it up, deal with the pathetic refereeing and the consequences of being outside the silk purse that is the prem.

I don’t disagree that incidents like this should be investigated, football is a dangerous sport now and again there a bad injuries. We should try and learn from them

people just need to take themselves out of the boro bubble for a second and look at the incident.

mom first look in live play I couldn’t tell you what happened. 2 Blackburn players together, I think the ref should see it but I’m not at his level and there’s 2 players together so I can understand he may miss it. If he misses it what can he do from there?

In the replay it looks bad as the challenge really is. It’s a red card and a penna. the lads a kid, he’s got his eye on the ball and he’s probably working on defensive instinct. That doesn’t takeaway it’s a bad challenge but personally cos his eye on the ball I don’t think he’s intentionally trying to wipe someone out.

fry is also leaning down into the ball too.

lots of things contributed to why the injury is bad one, but ultimately the blame lies with braithwaite for the bad challenge.
