Boris Johnson cycle ride

It IS a REAL story for everyone.
Its another "do as I say - not do as I do".
Can I go on a 7 mile cycle ride and say "the PM does it" if my local coppers stop me and ask me why I am not exercising "local"?
What about the two friends who were mobbed by coppers for travelling 6 miles?
You need to shake your head.
I think the two friends very clearly broke the rules as they drove - it’s quite different. My guess would be the stay local is targeted to prevent people travelling to beauty spots and beaches which then end up mobbed with other people as we have seen earlier in the lockdown.

I agree completely with this. The rules are being kept vague so those with the clout can argue against them. It's appaling of this government to do this. Essentially risking lives so they themselves have an out
Yes but you have to follow this through to it’s logical conclusion - how far can you paper the rules. Whatever rules have been set throughout this you get the moron press with questions like what constitutes a substantial meal is a scotch egg a substantial meal etc. Unless you have the time and resources to prescribe a rule for every possible scenario in detail then there will always be one person pushing the boundaries. This is the reason why they are so vague in my eyes rather than any other underlying reason. Throughout this the gvt have always shown not to be heavy handed with the public i for one wish they were much more strict in their approach. With regard the Boris bike ride whilst many have mentioned 7 miles is no distance at all for a cyclist I think it would have been advisable for him not to have travelled so far given the fall out we are now seeing.

Not really.
There's a difference between walking 7 miles from home and driving 7 miles to have a walk.
Ok. What is that difference then? And who in government is defining it?

If you drive, rather than cycle, are you more likely to spread it on the way?

I bet you’re in better shape than BoJo though!

Unfortunately I am fatter that Boris!! But trying very hard to get thinner. Lost 9lbs in January so far.

If I didn't get my cycling in I'd remain fat, probably go mad (I struggle a bit with the old MH) and turn to booze. Exercise is vital to keeping me in a good place. Thankfully I have Zwift so can cycle as far as I want without breaking any rules. Not everyone is as lucky as me though to have a good set up.

Can I ask some advice.
Ive been combining:

I`ve never used Zwift or other online facilities.
Do I need a heart-rate monitor and other tech?
The "tacx focus s" has built in sensor and software. The Garmin allows me to use GPS out on the road and indoors it has "indoor" and "training" options, including resistance settings etc.
I usually choose one of the online training videos - yesterday it was a 2 hour enduro ride - and have established benchmarks [eg min 24 km over an hour intervals].
Any thoughts?

A scotch egg was a substantial meal as was a plate of chips as places menus had to be approved to open and you're right you will have people who will push the boundaries and or totally ignore the guidelines but that doesn't mean that where possible a lot of the ambiguity.

A simple instruction that exercise must start and end at home or a person's place of work is clear and leaves no room for interpretation, or if they define local as within a 10 minute drive of the above. The fact they have allowed people to fish further muddies the water of permissability

It could have been clarified. Either from your home or a maximum of, say, 5 miles drive. Even today a Tory MP, when asked about the PM, said local meant local in your mind!

Sounds like me and dog walking that mate. I'm hoping the weather is better suited to get out on the bike when I'm home in late February.

There's a bit of info about set ups on the Peloton thread Roofie.
