There was a time when he was the best defensive midfielder in the division. I was actually disappointed we didn't give him a one year extension, as I thought he could be a valuable squad player but I'm glad we didn't now. He was very poor today.

Not his fault, age catches up with every player and he's currently playing above his level.
 
It's a shame for him. He was done arguably 2 years ago for us but his mega contract meant he was not leaving until his contract ended.

He was a very good player for us. The partnership with Grant under AK is as good as we've had.

That said Morsy / Saville and Tav ran rings around him. It's something that happened a few times in his later games for us.

I won't slate him. He's older and in a pretty poor side. He's probably done well to get a 3 year deal on decent money.
 
Do you think if he was still here warnock would make use of him? I dont think hes fit enough but i thought that about howson before and hes having a great season. I think hes finished at this level personally.

To be fair I'm sure brum fans looked at Clayton and George and thought decent pros.

The fact is both have been off the pace or injury prone for 2 years. They now have them on decent contracts.

I hope they both get a decent reception when they finally return to the Riverside with fans👍
 
I was a big fan of Clayton when he was at Boro, but I actually think his season in the premier League broke him.

He did well enough for us and we shouldn't show too much disrespect as I think he really put a boat full of effort in to helping us turn a corner. He was a honest pro and I think he earned his wage/contacts at Boro, a lot more than can be said of some of the turds we've had here.
 
Genuinely wouldn't have noticed he was playing had I not already known it (although having said that, I missed his half-time substitution because I was making toast).
 
I think George at CB can still perform at this level. Wouldn’t get in our team mind.

Clayton is done unfortunately.
