This day 1988 Trevor Senior made his Boro debut

Erimus74

Well-known member
Following his £200k transfer from Watford on transfer deadline day
On the 26th March TS wore the No9 shirt with Paul Kerr dropping down to the No12 shirt, at home to Birmingham City in a 1-1 draw with Gary Pallister scoring his penultimate Boro goal & his 3rd of the season

2 of his 4 goals came on his 2nd Boro appearence at AP but 2 of the other goals were far, far more important, when scoring a goal each in ther playoffs against Bradford City & Chelsea, as well as assisting Bernie in scoring v Chelsea in the 1st leg at AP, turned out to be a master dtroke from Bruce, unfortunatly it didnt work out for him in the 1st divison & after 5 games he was sold

Trevor Senior went on to play 14 games for the Boro between March 1988 in the 2nd divison & September 1988 in the 1st division, scoring 4 goals, when he was transferred to Reading, the club where he made his name as a goalscorer

We all expected a lot more from Trevor Senior and he failed to produce in a Boro shirt, although he did score some important goals. It was rumoured that him and Slaven didn't get on and sometimes I felt it was evident on the field.

And I thought our first Spanish keeper was performing in Karanka's Premier League team Erimus.

I liked Trevor Senior I remember. Definitely a trier.

I thought he did ok for us - a mate of mine once unkindly described him as “runs like a camel” a little harsh I thought 😬 non the less his goal against Chelsea turned out to be very important - good photos erimus 👍🏻

£200k was a lot of money for us back then, as you rightly say it never worked out, he bagged goals & made his name at Reading, it never worked out at Watford, who we bought him from, though his replacement in Peter Davenport, who we eventually signed a month later, didn't work out too well either

Slightly embarrassed with this one - I was getting him mixed up with Davenport. It certainly is an age thing with me.

Now I liked Senior.

I suppose slightly similar to Maccarone to a degree, in that he cost a lot of money (relatively speaking), didn't score enough goals, but will always be remembered fondly for the important goal(s) they did score.

Yep agree with that

Boro also beat Charlton 3-0 this day 1983 with goals from Stephen Bell & a brace from Mick Baxter
