Lee Johnson

Given the long losing runs and implosion he had with Bristol City, I can't imagine him doing better at a less stable club.

No idea if he was their first choice, but I thought the likes of Pearson and Cook would be too savvy to touch it. They'd feel they can do better.

Sounded like the return of Poyet was first choice but he backed down at last minute.

Too right, there are a few good names out there, you would think they've been burnt to many times & the next time they'll get it right, there were a few on here calling out Gibbo for some of the managers we've had since McClaren, but they just go overboard

I honestly thought with all the positivity coming out of Sunderland regarding the new owners coming in, the money mentioned they would go for someone big for that division & let's be honest, a division with Hull apart, none of the teams want to show enough desire to drag that league by the scruff of the neck

He has a good record & 'as I mentioned, new owners who you would have thought wanted the best they can get, maybe he is
Can’t blame managers for turning that down with how many managers they have been through. Plus with the salary cap they are essentially just another club at that level now, any financial advantage they had will be disappearing by the season.

Shame :ROFLMAO:

True. I actually thought they woukd have come up 1st time if asking but since they are no different than the chasing pack in each of the past 2 seasons

I too am surprised at the comments about Johnson. I think he’s a decent appointment for them.

What's he ever done?

Every season he managed Bristol City, they started well and then completely imploded and missed out on the play-offs entirely. Not done on a shoestring.
It's not like his sides were particularly high scoring to at least provide entertainment to outweigh the failings either.

I remember people suggesting Johnson to replace Warnock and I was dead set against it.

Sunderland want promotion, I'm not sure he'll manage it. I hope he doesn't, so I'll be glad if I'm proven right.

I do but I was thinking of the lines of Cook or Pearson, I just find the noices coming out of the stadium of light over the past few weeks they would have pushed the boat out, with fans maybe allowed in early Feb & big appointment with the new owners would have got the place buzzing

I don't think the appointment is any better than who they've just sacked

He’s a smug get who’s done **** all. Rated because he is ‘young’ and says he likes to play football. Right out of the Garry Monk copybook. Woeful manager who will find the Sunderland job to big for him. I will give it this time next year and they will be looking for yet another new manager. Ask Bristol City fans if they think he’s any good.

Okay! Calm down. Only someone's opinion!
