Warnock post match media conference

I thought the referee was ok. You shouldn't hope to win a match by the ref sending off an opponent, I didn't think he deserved to be sent off. You win matches by scoring goals and that's where NW needs to focus in my opinion.

Because Mike Riley heads up the organisation responsible for the referees.

It just so happens Mike Riley was the referee at the Carling Cup Final 2004. Warnock has had issues with the ref before too unfortunately. It just so happens Warnock has previously described Riley as a robot without a feel for the game. Warnock recently blamed Riley for how referees are failing to apply the rules in context of understanding how football is played.

I find it odd that a referee who has been reffing in the Championship since September 2013 and is from the area is first of all allowed to referee a Boro game. Secondly, as he is, why then did it take until 2019/20 season for it to happen? He has now reffed us 3 times in 13 months involving 1 draw and 2 defeats. In fairness, I thought he was ok, barring the incident after the pen was kicked. I have watched it 30 times over and can not be sure, even in slow motion, therefore at full speed, how can the ref or any official be sure he hit it twice? The truth is he/they can’t be.

Personally, I think he guessed, although he was quick to give it. Tav showed naivety in not peeling off to celebrate, he did look guilty tbf and then tried to cover that up imho. That said, but for Coulson’s stupidity we get a point.
I think he either guessed or wasn‘t convinced it was a penalty so quickly took the opportunity to disallow it - I wondered if he wasn’t over happy about Tav dancing about in the run up as well.

Worse think about Coulson is that in the lead up to him putting his foot in I was shouting at the telly for him to be careful - probably along with every other Boro fan watching. Really unprofessional and you could see it coming.

I love seeing Warnock's passion, I really do.
We lost yesterday because of a very poorly executed penalty, a very hasty and questionable refereeing decision and a terrible decision by young Coulson. That's it.

We may have had more opportunity had the referee rightly sent off the lad in the second half.
But more significantly if we had greater quality in the final third/penalty box.

The base of our side is coming together very very well.

We need to keep Coulson on the bench.

We need to keep Coulson on the bench.

We have better players to do his job. His main attribute is pace, as much as I was crying out for pace, it has to come with other skillsets too. Coulson is raw, and I am not writing him off as yet, but he’s a long way off deserving a regular start.

I agree. Not sure what NW was playing at yesterday with them first 2 subs. p****d me right off.

I think as a direct result of yesterday we may now see more of Roberts. I hope so. Roberts offers nothing defensively but lots pressing forward. I can see City recalling him if we don’t give him more game time tbh. We need to be careful on that score.

I would like to think so. I am hoping it’s not a Warnock - Tomlin situation

No we don’t but he needs to learn yesterday’s lesson quickly, as does Tav by the way.

We do. He’s someone I would bring on when loosing but he can’t be trusted. Tav has had more good games than bad this season. Much more reliable than Coulson.

Coulson has hardly played this season and must have done something right to be young player of the season last time round.

We can’t just keep writing off our young talent on the basis of mistakes, as long as they learn, they will come through.

Last season I heard Dijksteel, Tav and Bola written off plenty of times on here.

We need to encourage the young players not get on their backs, it’s an old failing of our support.

I'm not sure I've seen much writing off of any of the young lads - the fanbase generally love them and give them air cover; those lads will make mistakes (yesterday two of them did), the key is learning from them.
