Stop Posting the Conspiracy Rubbish

What constitutes a Covid 19 patient is subjective though. And being married to an Italian lass, i know a little about the country and the current situation. More importantly doesnt all this raise different questions like. If its already been here for over 12 months and went through a winter perhaps at a minimum what we had then isnt what we have now, or what we have isnt as its purported to be?
Neither. There is an interesting article here

Very interesting. Funnily enough I’ve just been catching up with the news and the Independent are running the same story -

Would be good to see the actual study but I’ve not found it yet.
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/...us-italy-anitbodies-covid-study-b1723243.html

This dude, who seems to know his onions, thinks we can pretty much ignore the September-Italy research -

It’s a thread of 6 or 7 tweets but the crux of it is -

“Unless it can be confirmed by far better evidence, I believe the claim of #COVID19 circulating in Italy in August can be safely ignored. The bulk of the evidence points to emergence of #SARSCoV2 ~Oct/Nov 2019 in China, and a spread to Europe (Northern Italy) in ~Nov/Dec 2019.“

Hes certainly well qualified. However, his work has been focussed on where and when the virus started. He may well be right but he could be wrong, if it turns out he is that could be interesting. For example, i would of thought his approach would of been interesting evidence needs further evidence and analysis because it could change how our approach to how we respond. Instead he’s quite quickly dismissed it

Yep that’s fair enough.
I guess now this research has been highlighted in the press, other teams will be able to look and confirm or dismiss their findings with research of their own, in other countries. So hopefully we’ll find out for sure, one way or the other.

So youre saying its all coincidental? If that works for you fair enough. Not for me.
Maybe I'm missing something but I don't see how you can discern a coincidence from only one event. Only Pfizer/BioNTech have announced anything recently, no-one else.

It has been reported that Moderna may also announce some promising interim findings soon but as yet they haven't done so.

Where do you see a coincidence?

Even if it does turn out that two companies make announcements of interim results fairly close to reach other (announcements based, once again, on analyses from independent DMC's that the companies don't control) then is it really all that surprising when there are over 200 different candidate vaccines being worked on and everyone started at pretty much the same time?

Anyway, I feel I'm rather banging my head against a brick wall here so I'll now refrain from further comment on this specific issue.

I didnt say i did see a coincidence, more of a contrivance.

These circular arguments are a bit pointless. Each side will interpret, not just data, but the unfolding events around us in the way that best suites their belief.

If the transmission rates now fall the proponents of lockdown will say, see lockdown works. The lockdown deniers will say we had already peaked.

If transmission rates continue to climb lockdown proponents will say, the lock down wasn't really a lockdown so of course it is continuing to spread, whereas the deniers will say, see told you so.

It really is pointless arguing, I gave up a little while ago and try to keep my own council except for the odd dig at Alvez of course, if we are all doomed I may as well have some fun, right.

It looks like we have a vaccine on the way so here's hoping for a better 2021

Alvez, love may be a bit strong. I actually like a good row and have no problems with you or anyone else making their case. Lockdown has just been done to death, no pun intended.

I have noticed a ramping up of vitriolic rhetoric on this subject by a handful on both sides of the argument and it is painful to watch this sleepy social media hamlet turn into twitter.

@rob_fmttm You will be pleased to see not a single swearword and a grammatically correct post.

Wouldn't be anywhere near Hull by any chance?

It’s not Hull - don’t really think I should be saying where it is. Not fair on me mate.
Fair do's. Only reason I asked was they had a consultant on the news over the weekend from a hospital in Hull saying schools should be shut etc.
