And hugh expectations were expected of him

Mark Brennan scored his 1st Boro goal as the Boro ran out 1-0 winners recording our 5th consecutive home win, out of a possible 6 that is some going, our only loss to date was the home game v Norwich City

Yeah, I was there. I was really excited about signing Davenport, England international, had come through at Forest under Clough and been Man Utd top scorer a couple of season earlier. He was supposed to be that touch of quality at CF to help take the burden of Slaven,....but he was a jelly-legged flop. Played better as a winger in his second season but was just too lightweight at CF. It took him about 10 games to finally score against his old club in a 1-0 home win and I think he ended up with about 3 or 4 that season which was rubbish for what I think was our record signing at the time.

It's fine, good days & a very good team who really shouldn't have been relegated
I have always thought Hamiltons injury and the decision to let Laws go were the reasons we couldn't turn things round at the end of the season. They had both been such huge influences over the previous 2 years and were badly missed. Glover exit was a bit weird, something behind the scenes?

Davenport is right up there with the Boersma signing for me. They were 2 players I was really excited about signing for the Boro that, in reality, were hugely disappointing and never came anywhere near justifying their worth.
I had watched him against us for Man U in what seemed a few weeks before, but with my memory it could have been a year. I could not believe we had bought him , I really thought for the first time we were going to win something . He was dross.

Re Boersma, I was in a Liverpool pub Before a cup game, Thier supporters were saying he could be brilliant or carp, for us he was the latter.

Yeah the Glover thing really surprised me. Hammo was superb the promotion seasons and was probably good enough to be in a very decent Scotland squad, but that injury ruined his career

Bairdy and Slav were an ideal pairing. Remember FMTTM describing Baird as a cross between a brown bear and a wood pigeon, he moved in a straight line and if anything was in the way ........... BOOM! :D

Yep go along with that 👍

Peter Davenport and Andy Payton. Big money, didn't deliver (although I think AP got crocked in his second game, so no blame!)
