Covid patients yes.I'm presuming these are occupancy figures for Covid patients (as the NHS never runs at 10% bed occupancy)?
A little googling tells us that, this time last year (pre-Covid), the NHS acute bed occupancy was 92% (93,442 occupied from 101,598 available). If this year we now have a new disease that, by itself, is already causing 10% of acute beds to be occupied, you must be able to see how this could be a problem?
Unlike Vallance's stats which were hand picked from 29 hospitals these are taken from all of them.
Why?I'm sure they are, which leads us to another issue. If you're from Manchester or Liverpool and require a hospital bed, it's not much practical use to you if the spare capacity is in Norfolk or Cornwall.
