Sports Personality of the Year

Key word - SPORTS....therefore Lewis should walk it.

But I would have no complaints if Rashford won it because what he has done outside of sport this year is quite amazing.

Full respect to Marcus for how he's used his fame for the benefit of hundreds/thousands of less privileged children.
If everyone had the same car as Lewis would he dominate like he has though? In snooker they all play with fancy cues....

This debate has been done to death...but to put it briefly. Nearly every team he's been a part of, he's been the most successful driver. Even when Rosberg beat him to the championship that year at Mercedes, it was more of a case of Hamilton having rotten luck with engines etc, than Rosberg being the better driver.

He's definitely worthy of SPOTY this year. What he's done in F1 throughout his career will take some beating.

It's only a matter of time before he takes over Schumacher's 'Most F1 Championships' title.

I wouldn't dispute that but being the best of 2 drivers isn't THAT impressive, is it? I also wouldn't dispute that he is the best driver generally but I suppose it just depends on how you view F1 as a whole. Personally, I guess I just find some sports more 'deserving' than others. I would be pushed to vote for a jockey too.

Can understand your point, definitely.

However, I still think his achievement deserves SPOTY as he's achieved something that has never been done before in F1.

I think you could summarise it basically as a popularity contest.
Generally, yes, but there have been a handful of years where I hadn't even heard of one of the top 3 until they were nominated, and I'm a pretty big sports fan. Tony McCoy, Leigh Halfpenny, Jonathan Rea, Nick Skelton, Ellen MacArthur. I don't even think I knew who Mark Cavendish was until he won it (I got into cycling after the Olympics) and, TBH, he's done naff all since.

Watch him in the wet, that is the great leveller in F1 and he still dominates while Bottas slides back into the chasing pack in the same car.

Verstappen against Albon is the most obvious mismatch in the F1 pairings so Bottas obviously isn't that bad a driver but driving in the wet is the real test of skill as it always has been sorting the wheat from the chaff.

Fine but it still only really proves that he's better than Bottas.
