Congratulations to Lewis Hamilton

Why is that relevant? None of those I mentioned were anywhere near the better drivers in F1 yet found themselves seated in the best cars. It's complete nonsense to suggest that it's inevitable the best drivers end up in the best cars.
I just wondered if those people were teammates of the best drivers. It would then be absolutely relevant, because the best drivers would be in the best cars. Teams rarely have the best 2 drivers in the modern era as it causes headaches

You have to tip your hat to him-- 5-6 years ago I thought he would have fallen by the wayside like so many drivers do in racing -- i.e so many lose their nerve or get out of shape, but Lewis really had the bit between his teeth to knock Schumacher off his perch-- well done. Who knows how long his record will stand.

Anybody been watching 'The Race to Perfection' on Sky Documentaries? I never had much interest in F1 but these documentaries and films like Rush, Senna and even Le Mans '66 have changed that.

Try to find Hunt vs Lauda. I think it was a BBC documentary chronicling the infamous 1976 F1 season.

Last season was arguably one of the best this century with some really close calls, spill and thrills all the way you could say-- I enjoyed it anyway. This season you could argue that the F1 season has been like a can of custard in the pantry when you got no pie-- it just lacked that vital ingredient -- as well as the crowd and the close calls. I'm pleased that Lewis has achieved greatness-- from council house to riches galore -- good for him he has a special talent. So now he has the most wins now he just needs another couple of championships to seal his name in history.

He will simply go down as the greatest British F1 driver ever.

And arguably the greatest ever F1 driver.

He's incredible.
English.

Despite being too young see him race, from what I hear about Jim Clarke he was peerless.

That being said Hamiltons record, his ability, his sheer will to win is stunning. Especially given he seems just as concerned about charitable campaigns, his dog, fashion and music as he is about F1

Which is weird when you think about it because, Sochi aside, this season has had much better tracks to race on than any other season in the hybrid era. None of the dull, blue painted, million mile run off modern tracks. Shame we couldn't get to Suzuka mind

Remember rosberg pipped him one year to the title and if alonso wasnt so jealous of him at mclaren he may well have had another one

EDIT both finished on 109 points just 1 point behind Raikkonen

Portimao has been the best race of the season for me, hope it can stay on the calendar.

No chance, same with Mugello, Imola, Istanbul etc, not financially viable to keep them on the calendar. Strong talk of a street circuit in saudi arabia joining for next year. Everything that is wrong with the sport that these great tracks are snubbed in favour of the likes of China, Bahrain, Abu Dhabi etc that produce awful races.

I have no issue with that Nosmo but some folk just won't see past 'the man' when discussing 'the driver'.
This seems to be a thing. Oh I don't like that man, therefore I\ll try and belittle his, utterly phenomenal, achievements.

I said it before but I really have taken a dislike to the way Christiano Ronaldo acts on the pitch. The selfish, preening arrogance and the play acting doesn't sit well with me.

That doesn't stop me saying he's truly ones of the greatest players we'll ever see.

I feel like there is an elephant in the room why Lewis doesn't get the widespread recognition his records deserve.

Is it because he has an opinion? or wants to use his position and media exposure to promote causes that don't fit with some peoples narrative?

Andy Murray was friggin knighted for winning a couple of Wimbledon tennis matches ffs.

just a thought.

He's a winner and four-time runner-up of the BBC SPOTY award. Why should recognition only be in the form of a knighthood?

Huh? I thinkbilly has a point. His political campaigning is the only possible reason someone who has a achieved so much is denied a knighthood

Ask Sir Chris Hoy or Sir Bradley Wiggins or Harry Kane MBE

Also the same SPOTY that voted Ryan Giggs as a "winner" for si services to football in the year Jensen Button was world champ. SPOTY is no different to x Factor these days. Total surprise the women's netball team won team of the year just as the BBC had the TV rights.
