Patrick Bamford

Makes me feel physically sick thinking on occasions before Gestedes injury Pulis played Bamford left wing so Gestede could be striker. Sums Tony Pulis up.
I think the club was desperate to save money and that was part of Pulis' brief.

Unfortunately that usually translates to the best players leaving, whilst the club are left stuck with the ones they would ideally want to move on. Its a short term view and, in this case, one which the club I'm sure has regretted more as time passes.

I'm still annoyed we sold him, it was baffling,

I didn't expect him to start this season so well, but I suppose it's been a very, very open Premier League so far with goals pouring in.
Nice to see he's not cheated much yet too.

He could be an outside shot for an England call up right now, though I expect he's going to eventually settle on playing for Ireland as he'd actually get a game.

Someone above said that he has been indifferent for Leeds. Last season there was a fair contingent of Leeds fans frustrated with him for lack of work. Hope he continues to shine he seems like a nice lad. Maybe he is maturing as a footballer and getting better, it's not unheard of.

I was against selling him in 2018 certainly for the £7m rising to £10m - a lot on this board said it was right to sell him to Leeds. He looked our best striker in 2018 and in 2014/15 and one of the very best in the Championship. We could have sold Braithwaite for close to £7m and did in 2019 for £4.5m which later became £6.3m. On the positive we have now made a profit on Bamford's sale plus his goals.

Bamford wrote in an article last week that he struggled at some clubs because he thought the managers at those clubs thought because he was middle class everything had been put on a plate for him in life and thus they didn't beleive in him. He said he had no problems with foreign managers, they didn't seem to be affected by the English class system, so I think we can take AK out of the criticism, but it does leave a potential question mark over TP's and GM's judgements of him. Why sign 3 strikers when we already had 2. Surely 4 is enough?

Never trust the judgement of Leeds fans. I'd say work rate is the last thing you down Bamford for.

In my opinion, If we can make a profit on a player we will (sadly). We have sold several players over the years who have been performing well and replaced them with inferior players. I genuinely think whoever is pulling the strings, (and as you know I think the managers do not fully control transfers) they are clueless on how to build a football team. We seem to think that buying a forward or midfielder who has performed well at a club and playing them in a different role will work because they should be adaptable. Well, they rarely are. Rocket science it is not, horses for courses always works fairly well.

Bamford was always going to be a success in the right set up and Boro’s chickens keep coming home to roost with poor judgement calls. I blamed Gibson mostly, he is the owner and has the veto on all recruitment/transfers as the owner, in Bamfords case I feel Pulis was instructed to ensure it happened, rather than Gibsons hand being forced by Pulis. Profit being the motive. Thank god we have Warnock right now, I dread to think where we would be otherwise. His hands are financially tied and I think we as a club have caused our own fall from grace. Some fans seem to think its just the natural yoyo effect of a club like ours. Well I am not having that, whilst money is a factor, it is irrelevant on its own. It is not as important as having good vision and judgement across recruitment and retention both on and off the pitch. Boro have been wanting since 2006, generally in both areas.

Managers live or die by results and the decision to sell Bamford ultimately cost Pulis his job, with Bamford in the squad we’d have scored more goals and made the play offs at least in my opinion.

Pleased Bamford is doing well and perhaps working with Bielsa has improved him and Leeds are benefiting from his good form.

I agree with Coluka that managers at MFC have had to do things which may be against their best judgement and we are possibly a bit unfair on managers at times. Steve Gibson has put a lot of money and time into the Club and loves the Club and he wants a big say in its running which of course is not unreasonable almost like a protective father over his daughter. They are times I wish he would just allow a manager a set financial budget, with freedom to work within that budget, especially for an experienced manager. Maybe Gibbo has been hurt in the past by managers not working in the what is considered the best interests of the Club and some trust has been lost.

And there were some who tried to tell us he was no great shakes, wouldn't make it in the prem, that Assombolonga was better and pulis was right.
I'd honestly never tire of kicking pulis in the balls over and over again.

Delighted for Patrick. Smashing lad, excellent player and our best striker since Mark Viduka.
Best striker since viduka. That is some claim

He has had a good start to the season but has a long way to go to be considered with Kane, Ings, Vardy etc
Thank God someone here was just checking the absolute hyperbole of this thread And giving a little bit of perspective

We’re getting into the realms of Adam Forshaw should be in the England squad

I think he's benefited from no fans in the stadiums, makes a difference when you have no fans on your back, when they return all that negativity will have gone, he's always very much been a confidence player. Fair play to him he gave his all for us while here, not his fault a dinosaur manager didn't fancy him.

Probably a lot to be said for that.

My take on Patrick Bamford is that it was a mistake to let him go. I do think we got paid the relevant value at the time, but we didn’t need to sell our best striker.

made a good start in the premier league, many strikers have had bursts in the premier league. Time will tell if he’ll continue in this form. You’d expect he would. But half a dozen games doesn’t mean you’ve made it in the premier league

even maccarone had a decent start in the premier league

In fairness to Gibson I think he did just that with the scumbag monk.
There is one person to blame for the disaster that was selling Patrick Bamford.
We needed to sell Bamford so much that we spent his entire fee (inc add ons) recruiting George Saville and borrowing Jordan fūcking Hugill for a season of trundle.
I do not believe for a single minute that Gibson wanted to sell Bamford. He backed his manager who is proving how in touch with football he is by being unemployed and making a fool of himslef every time he opens his mouth as a "pundit"

OK Gaz, name me a better Boro one since 2008?
It's not close.
(As for Maccarrone, the most he scored in any league season was 9).
Bamford has 6 already.

Thankfully most Boro fans appreciate how very very good Patrick was and is and wish him well.
Most have already realised that pulis poured petrol on the bonfire monk built.
