Cases and deaths down for a few days now...

There a link below which discusses the four known seasonal viruses. Viruses don't have to be seasonal as SARS and MERS aren't. Novel coronaviruse are rare and their novelty makes them unpredictable. We'll get a better understanding over the next 5-10 years which way it goes.

Sorry bear, but there is no data in the article. Yes, while this may be a new virus it is currently following the expected pattern in Northern European countries and the expected (but different) pattern in the Southern american countries. I have shown the graphs a number of times and a video explanation of this previously and don't want to spam the board but if you want I'll link to them again.

There is no 'expected pattern' for a novel virus. Pretending there is is duplicitous.

How do we know it's a novel virus when Koch's postulates have yet to be met?
If it is a brand new, unique virus and not a distant relative of coronaviruses already around wouldn't everybody it met be infected AND be symptomatic as the human body would have no immune memory on how to fight it?

No

There is a lot to by cynical about. I am extremely uncomfortable with the fact that laws are being made at the drop of a hat, about otherwise totally innocent events and only in certain areas, and the fact that every few weeks I have to put my three old through the trauma of a test swab rammed up his nose every time he gets a temperature. Not because I think he might have covid19, because kids rarely show symptoms anyway, but because I’m worried what people will think if I don’t (and they find out) and think I’m an irresponsible member of society, because the government say I should do that.

As I say, I’m no conspiracy theorist but there is a lot to be uncomfortable with at the moment. But then part of the problem, I suppose, is that as society we have scared ourselves about this kind of thing for so long (movies, books etc) that now it’s actually happening its hard not to imagine the worst case. Be it biological and/or political.

Yeah my 3 year old has had two tests. Despite the doctors saying they were "almost certain" it wasn't covid-19. The second time when he worked out what was coming he went ballistic, one of the worst feelings I've had as a parent doing that. It's not a pleasant experience for an adult, never mind a young child.

His symptoms would have to be pretty F***ing significant for me to put him through that again. As you say highly unlikely kids that age will display symptoms if they have covid anyway. Not to mention the ballache it is getting a test in the first place. It'd be better for the slot to go to an adult anyway.

I think I comply with everything else, but they can b***r off if they think I'm putting him through that torture again without good reason.

(although I am lucky that it's easy for us to keep him home from nursery for the ten days if we have to, which we would do).

Exactly the same as us. First time was unpleasant, second time was traumatic for all 3 of us. Pertinently, because I knew his brief temperature almost certainly was nothing to do with Covid. But they tell you you’re supposed to so you comply.

There are a lot of people who say the virus has never been isolated (Without knowing fully what they are even talking about), then there are others that quote Kochs Postulates as if they can prove the virus doesn't exist. It does exist. I, like pretty much everyone else on this board aren't experts, but if you talk to virologists and epidemiologists and various other scientists who do know what they are talking about then you will understand their frustration at the dunning kruger levels amongst the general public.

They are still basing predictions on data back when we knew nothing about the virus, how widespread it was, how long it had been in circulation and who it was most likely to seriously affect. Not just that but look at survival rates, back during the peak 39% of people admitted to critical care died now its 12% because of a better understanding of the disease and treatments like dexamethasone. During the peak, aggressive ventilation was the default treatment, now its a last resort as there is some evidence to suggest it does more harm than good. What use is any lockdown if people aren’t interested, it doesn’t matter if it’s 2 weeks or 2 months If people aren’t going to follow it. People have had enough of being effectively put under house arrest with no trial, given confusing and contradictory rules by hypocrite politicians and basically told they can go anywhere there is a till and they must go to work but they aren’t allowed to see their friends and family. People have had enough of worrying about their jobs, businesses, livelihoods and homes every day for the past half a year. The fact schools and universities would stay open suggests it wouldn’t be that effective anyway as the data suggests that’s where it’s being spread at the moment. You aren’t going to fix test and trace in a few weeks when they’ve had half a year to get it working. Madness not to lock down care homes and encourage shielding when cases are rising especially when we already know it’s these people who most likely end up in hospital.
