Seen the news last night & Pickfords outrageous tackle

How was he not sent off, I can't believe, regardless of Virgil been offside, that no action was taken, that 'assault' could have ended the Liverpool players career, hopefully he comes back OK, why can't that tackle be reviewed with the keeped given a 3 match ban

Also read Liverpool officials complaining to the powers to be regarding Henderson goal & VAR
Sorry but not once did I read the Liverpool officials complain last season when they benefitted quite a few times from VAR decisions, so why complain when it goes against you

IMHO though I do think it should be binned, it brings nothing to the game other than constant controversy

Spot on - both fronts
Sending off (y)
Liverpool wanting to see the evidence (n) - should be told to ‘do one’ by those in power.

Can understand ( just ) why a challenge like that can come from a packed Goodison in a derby firing him up early doors , but absolutely no excuse yesterday and a straight red .
Pure naivety at best or red mist at worst .

Completely agree, pickford should get a 3 match ban at least, mind you if I was Ancelotti I'd be begging the FA to ban him.

I'd like to think liverpool are being ironic with their statement because of all the decisions that got last year 😁

Debated this In another thread in full yesterday. Ignoring the team who suffered it is clear the referee made an error which should have been picked up by the VAR official. So an error by the officials all round.
You cant go b0ll0ck high studs showing whether there was an offside or not.

Wonder if the FA can give him 3 match ban with no yellow card given. Good point about Liverpool last year but still think it’s a ridiculous decision.

It was a ridiculous decision & another reason THAT VAR should be binned as it brings nothing to the game, I said this last year & a poster replied utts not VAR it's the way it's been implemented & that's fine but that is the point, no improvement at all
Stop cheating in the game, first & foremost

Only football can mess up video refereeing.

The video technology in cricket is amazing. Yes it has taken time to develop but this combined with the improvement of the 3rd umpire analysis and protocols means that there is rarely any controversy.

Yep it's horse ****. The worst thing is every time you witness a piece of drama you are unable to appreciate it as it could be taken away.
The concept of it is ridiculous as they are only supposed to look at clear and obvious errors, yet the definition of clear and obvious is in itself not clear and obvious.
Refereeing mistakes are part of the game. And as a grown up I can accept it when they don't go our way.
IFAB are doing a dreadful job of regulating the game. It's about time it was reformed and we got representatives of the fans on there.
There also needs to be a recognition that change is not always necessary or welcome. It's the creep of a new person in a job feeling they have to make changes to be relevant.

If we're going to have VAR I'd use VAR like cricket does.
Each team has a challenge, and only then is VAR used. If the team successfully challenges, they keep their challenge.
Any display of dissent by players will taken by the ref as that team using their challenge.
That said, I don't really understand the reason for the grey area "umpire's call" in cricket.

However, I am prepared to ditch VAR altogether; what it has shown us thus far is that it will not get rid of controversy. I write this in the knowledge that VAR would probably have given us a win yesterday. There is no point writing what I've just written if you are not prepared to accept that occasionally you'll get a bad decision against you. It's always been part of the game.

I'm not sure we want an end to controversy anyway: media companies still need to fill a certain amount of airtime, and the debate will always begin where certainty ends. I do not relish the endless debates about whether VAR should be used for throw in decisions....

If you give a team a challenge who makes the decision. The captain on the field or the manager? It would be too complicated. Just get rid.

Agree . The best way to do that is hammer cheats retrospectively . We see hundreds of angles after the games , so go weighing in and dissuade them with mega fines and bans

Might have got us two extra points yesterday.

I'd say anyone on a team can do it.

Any player questioning a decision is taken to be challenging.
managers can also indicate to their players to challenge.

If a player challenges when the manager doesn't want him to, that it the manager's problem, not the officials.

It was a disgraceful tackle from Pickford and definitely deserved red. As for the ruled out goal. VAR must have the evidence regardless of how tight it was.

As brilliant as Liverpool are they had a few things go for them last season. Those are not happening at the moment.

If you make it the managers call you will have how many people watch monitors to give him the nob to challenge something. If you make it on field call the players will just be looking for a signal off someone. The Aussies/Steve Smith got caught doing the same thing in cricket.

Personality just get rid. If/when we get back up I don’t want to wait minutes to celebrate a goal or to know if the opposite have scored one.
