Yannick Bolasie loan deal

Last 5 seasons 95 club games Everton 32 2 goals
Villa (championship) 21 2 goals
Anderlecht 17 6 goals
Sporting. 25 Inc Europe 2 goals

You can make your own mind up about that. But I smell the eggs are the going off a bit?

I can't remember his exact wording, but he posted something snide about Middlesbrough on his Instagram story when he avoided coming here last time.
Then he got his loan at Villa ended early, which is telling in itself.

Honest question. Can you think of a better value player in terms of £s to goals ratio?

Well there have been a good few in our history, Slaven for one, but I presume you are talking now. However, it is not just about scoring his 1:7 ratio, as important as goals can be, it is about all the other things required. Out of possession he looks like a non league player (imho), his tackling is poor too. In possession he has a cracking shot, but Warnock clearly does not see him as a starter at present, which I would argue backs up my earlier comments. I am not even sure what his best position is. He has to offer more to the team than just his shooting and an occasional goal from midfield. I am not writing him off yet, I hope with better coaching Warnock can find more.

He was a much better player than many realise. The team performed far far better with him than without, the results with him were so significantly better, I can't remember exactly but it was like twice as many points when he played.
Dont know about that.
The game at Wednesday where him an Brit kept t-ing each other up was excellent. Far too inconsistent and cork-screwing into the ground for me.
Glad we didnt chuck 6M at him.
We move on.

Wing's physiology is the problem for me. Some players look awkward but can move fluidly when required. Lewis is very slow and doesn't appear to be able to run normally. He is massively knock kneed.
It is a major shame as I think he does have strong ability on the ball and has good vision.
Woodgate playing him so deep was brainless, absolutely brainless.

Spot on Roofie, in besic, Waghorn and Bolasie we dodged some pulis sized bullets and uncle tony lost even more on commission.

It's easy to just bash the guy, he has undoubtedly gone off the boil in the last 4 seasons, he isn't the fantastic talent he was at 23 or 24 year old, however, there is still a player there.

I guess the full story has to look at minutes that he played, as a loanee it's not uncommon to spend quite a bit of bench time, and also as a winger assists are important too.

19-20 - 2 goals and 5 assists in 1800mins or 20 games. So he scores or creates every 3 games for Sporting
18-19 - he was at Anderlecht and Champo 8 goals and 8 assists in 2371 mins, about 25 games. So creates/scores 2 times in 3 games
17-18 - 1 goal in 970mins, about 11 games. Clearly a poor season for Everton
16-17 - 1 goal and 4 assists in about 1200mins. so score/create 5 in about 13
15-16 - 6 goals and 6 assists in about 2500 mins 12 score/create in 27 games.

Even the last 3 season, including a terrible injury ravaged season and loss of form at Everton, he still has 11 goals and 13 assists in 56, which means he scored or assisted every 2 games.

He hasn't played enough mins but he has been creative in 4 of the last 5 years when played. He's still quick, good in the air and is different to anything else we have. As a super sub, he could be a game changing option. If he regains his previous form consistently, he Roberts and Tav would offer options to play with wingers in a 433, 4231 or 442. It's not as daft an option as you would think

I was mocked on the old FMTTM board last season for saying this. His ABCs (agibility, balance and coordination) are simply not htat of a professional athlete, meaning he can't run, turn and get his body in a good position fast enough

Anderlecht 6 goals in 17 games...I would hazard a guess that the top league in Belgium is nowhere near as good as the premiership, but probably a tad better than the championship..so he might be able to achieve more at this level. I also don’t think we would be loaning him as a goal scorer, more of a goal maker.

I would say at the very least he's better than we have. So does he improve the squad? Yes👍

His stats ain't great but he's quick and direct and that's some thing we've missed. You feel as a defender you always feel on edge if you know the guy you pick up is rapid. He would increase the trickery (with Roberts).

My issue is more wages and injury record. You don't want him breaking down and being payed by us crocked. Then again I'm not in charge of finances so I doubt Gibson would take it on unless we could pay.

Update from today's interview....

Neil Warnock on Yannick Bolasie:

"What would he bring? Frustration! One minute he’s unbelievable, the next you're asking, 'Is he a footballer?'
"He’s a good lad and I’ve always liked him - but whether it comes off, we’ll see."

So defo in for him

Details have arose as to why tricky winger Bolasie’s deal to Middlesbrough fell through, and why the 30-year old opted for Aston Villa.

Bolasie’s parent club Everton were happy to strike up a deal with Middlesbrough, with the North-East Championship side agreeing to pay a third of the wide-midfielders £72,000 a week wage.

“It was a deal that appeared to suit both Boro and Everton” claims the report. “Everton were contracted to pay the talented winger £72,000 a week. Boro, as a Championship club operating under strict EFL financial regulations, said they could pay a third of it. Everyone seemed happy.”
However, Everton soon contacted Middlesbrough to say Aston Villa had agreed to pay Bolasie’s full wage demands plus bonuses, and Boro weren’t able to compete.

I think you clearly have a far higher opinion and value for him than I bear66. He has failed (so far) to kick on from that early promise (imho). He has a shot, a good one, but as a CM he looks very much like a lost soul at times as play seems to pass him by, a bit like it did Traore. I would love him to kick on, but I don’t see him working hard enough in games recently, when he has been on the pitch. I would put his value at maybe around £500K to £1M as things stand (post covid), but if he were sold, I would want a sell on clause just incase. I am sure many will disagree, lets hope you and they are proved right.

He's national league quality at best. For example when he was at Shildon there were and still are far far better players in that league and the ones above who for whatever reason be it bad luck, poor form etc haven't been picked up.by professional clubs.

Can't fault Boro for trying to pluck an unpolished gem out of non league football, there are more than you could imagine down here but the Lewis Wing experiment hasn't worked. When we are letting players with the potential of Liddle go and keep Wing he's either over-performing in training or is on such a low wage and keeps his head down doing the bear minimum that he's forgotten about by management.

Warnock turned the lad at QPR [Taarbat?] into a real asset and made a silk purse out of Cardiff.
If he thinks he can manage and develop this lads talent - I believe him.
40 years in Management puts him ahead of most - hes done it at every other club hes been at - so hold your breath and see what happens come 5 o`clock.(y)
