Hospitality Fights Back

I think there will be another full on lock down. As said though, I can't see any difference a pub shutting at 10 and one shutting at 11

All the pubs I have been have been shoite hot on Covid restrictions but supermarkets seem to be slacking. Hitting the non essential social group won't really resolve the issue. Boris seems happy for us all to go about our day to day business and spread accordingly.

Why not have the midday break, like the old days, 11am to 3pm close, then open again 7pm to 11pm......plenty of time for drinks and meals.
The issue is the mixed messaging. People aren't coming through the doors because they don't know wether they will have money to spend the next week or if people are dropping dead in pubs and restaurants (spoiler, they aren't).

We usually do 300 meals on a Sunday. Today I've done 120. This new furlough scheme doesn't kick in unless your business is forced to shut because of a tier 3 regulation. This is why mayor's and council leaders are kicking off and going to court.

Myself and the head chef at work both agreed that the simplest thing the government should do is shut every pub and restaurant till end of January, 80% wage contribution from government, pause on national insurance and tax contributions plus pause on rents. They could even use previous year's takings starting from February 2020 and work backwards 12 months to work out which businesses contribute most to the economy if they want to be evil Tory sticklers.

Wednesdays was we called a black un, the North Eastern, The Talbot, The Castle and Anchor, The Cattle Market opened at 11.30 am stopped serving 3pm till 3.30pm and last orders were at 10.30pm shut at 11pm.

Hope your place manages to hang in there Randy, it's an outrageously shocking time for your industry through no fault of your own.
Luckily October has always been a quiet month for us anyways whereas most other places are quiet in January we do quite well that month. Plus the missus has been quite shrewd with the household finances this year plus the little bit of cash I came into recently we can survive for a full 12 months if the worst comes to worse and we both lose our jobs (she won't as she's a care assistant). Thousands of others are not in the same position my household is though.
Hopefully the threat of court action forces the government's hand.

I just hope it doesn't come to you dipping into your savings.

Education is the problem and everyone knows it. Kids refusing to wear masks and we can't enforce it. We can ask them to put them on whilst on the corridors, but they walk away and take them straight back off.

Supermarkets seem to be slacking?
How so? They are not responsible for implementing any rules (whether they should be has been the subject of many a debate tho’)
For clarity - government guidelines are clear. They are not to enforce the wearing of masks.

Because many pubs make their profit on food at lunch so can’t see them liking that one bit.

For me there is no doubt that the 10 pm curfew is an awful decision and has created environments after 10 which are more dangerous to health To have based this arbitrary cut off without solid medical or scientific evidence is scandalous.

The Govt suggest that 30% of transmission is at hospitality venues.
With the track and trace app now up and running I don't see why they can't publish the evidence?

I’m not sure when people ask for evidence that it is possible to provide, I’m sure these court cases will fall flat on their **** because of it. If there was such a clear cause and effect then the virus would have been treated and gone now. For me there are just so many moving parts so many variables it is difficult to pin point. The gvt has chosen the 10pm curfew as part of a catalogue of measures - I’m not so sure it’s working as others have pointed out it seems to drive worse behaviours , however I fee people raising court cases is less than helpful!

Because they do not have any ?

Gvt minister this morning quoted ‘academic evidence’ from America but, when pressed, couldn’t provide any real detail.
Problem is - there will be ’evidence’ out there somewhere. There always is a crackpot scientist/medic or two.
We’ve got Valance and Whitty for instance
