Contact tracing app relaunch

Facetimed friends in Qatar last night, they have a mandatory app, shows a QRcode which changes colour. They have to scan the QR code when theY go in anywhere.

The QR code changes colour, red or green with the obvious meanings, amber means get a compulsory test, yellow means waiting for test results.

Qatar is of course effectively a totalitarian regim.

Our totalitarian regime not quite as effective tho ;)

“And so it begins” if you are not aware that anything this app will do has probably being going on for years If you are a mobile phone owner - whilst misuse of data is undoubtedly a problem I’m not so sure this one app is going to change that situation greatly. Facts of the matter are in this modern world if you own a mobile phone someone somewhere is taking advantage of that fact for monetary & political gain.
The problem this time is it's the government taking our data and who knows what they want to control? Facebooks only want to sell us sheds

“Department of Health had earlier said that users must obey the command and would in theory be liable for fines of £1,000 or more if they did not, while acknowledging it had no way to check.”
’Must Obey the command’ ffs what is going on the state are now telling us we must ‘obey the command’, will we have to start doing a special salute to those in authority, such as the supervisors in Tesco and those awarded special status for grassing up their neighbours.

Stupid question, if I check into a venue who finds out I’ve been there? i.e. Is it anonymous?

Ive downloaded it, despite my misgivings.

if our own government using phrases like "obey the command" doesn't utterly terrify you, then you really aren't understanding what's happening.

Still saying only for use by nhs volunteer responders and residents of Isle of Wight and Newham residents?

I've downloaded and installed the app too, and while I mistrust this Government I don't, for once, think this is for any nefarious use. I'll take my chances with it, especially if it potentially means protecting not only myself and my family, but every random person we come into contact with too.

So I'm a fruitcake because I don't use a smartphone and that bars me from going to the pub? Thanks.

It was Coops who said the word fruitcake, not me. And I agree with the sentiments of the fact that the 5G / Bill Gates / Microchip / Fake Virus crowds won't go in, so that's great. However, sadly there are limitations of that approach where people like yourself are affected due to your phone, rather than being a conspiracy nutcase.

I've downloaded it, but plenty of older people won't have phones that can run it.

I think any pubs making it mandatory are shooting themselves in the foot.
