Macclesfield

Once again it is down to an individual - what FSA have been trying to press for is that not only would there be a fit and proper test that was actually "fit and proper" but there would be effectively a licence agreement every year. So, you might slip through the net initially but then at the end of the first year you would be booted it out. Owners would have to sign up at the start.

This was an individual who has acted appallingly since taking over the club. Not paying bills, not paying staff, his manager and players. Awful.

Wigan are in a similar boat at the moment and about to go bust; if they’d stayed up they would’ve had the funds to pay off any debts and prove the next 12 months of income but the EFL shafted them, Barnsley also in big trouble as they don’t own the ground and may not be able to continue playing.

The Macclesfield Supporters spokesman has been on Talksport at least three times over past months and it sounded like the owner is no better than that slimeball at Bury or the gangster at Bolton.
What a terrible time for the fans.
I see Southend are in deep trouble as well.
Disgraceful - and its not all to blame on covid.

You would have to hope there was a better way to resolve this - if only for the fans
Wind the club up and then top clubs fund the paying of all creditors to somehow give them a chance to start again freed from the shameful owner
EFL should be more proactive in helping Macclesfield for the fans - it's £500k while top clubs are signing and paying players for far bigger sums

Well said. It's a drop in the ocean to these bigger clubs.

It’s about time that the bottom of the pyramid is helped by the Premier League and the FA. Needs to be a salary cap in all leagues not linked to income and a much higher % of money trickled down. It’ll make it far more competitive.
Trouble is - the Premier League claim they are a seperate entity who have their own affairs to deal with. [I dont agree by the way].
The Premier League has sucked the lifeblood out of football - personally I wish the "big" clubs would all pzz off into some european Super - League.
Pity the EFL cannot be reconstituted so that the Championship is the top English League - The Premiership could offer "membership" to two of the top six teams who want to join their Private Club.
The National League can join so we have Four divisions.
The Premiership would not be involved in the League Cup and would have to pay to enter the FA Cup in the early rounds - and not have automatic entry later on.
The EFL would negotiate Broadcast Contracts with TV and Radio and they decide how much clubs reeceive each year dependent on which league they are in.
Basically - I believe English football will be better off without The Premiership.
I know there are umpteen different arguments why and why not, etc, but I cant be bothered to argue all night.
The Premiership wouldnt give the muck off their shoe to save anyone so its pointless expecting any of those clubs to help smaller clubs.
They dont care.
So why hold out false hopes?
Just a few thoughts.

We are all in this together. On one hand we can take aim at clubs paying x amount for players which would save all these clubs. Over the years we aren't any better. We are being linked with a 3M striker while a club goes bust, the 2 we have their wages far exceed a year what macclesfield owe. Just as we are trying to cut our cloth in years gone by we were a massive part of the wage boom. Guilty by association

I don’t think there’s a club out there who’s blameless in trying to achieve success but that’s the issue that unless clubs spend money they won’t keep up- the fact that we’ve allowed clubs like PSG and Man City to artificially inflate transfers means we’re stuck with a system where clubs can’t compete at the lower levels- any decent players are hoovered up.

The current Premier League - lead business model is unsustainable.
In "normal" times it was patently obvious - now its glaringly obvious - laid bare - money, money, money.

The model of individual ownership has ruined a lot of clubs in non league football over the past twenty years, with lots of clubs with historic fan bases no longer able to compete with project clubs funded initially by benefactors. The effect of this is now being felt further up the pyramid. It is the fans of community clubs who suffer and the big EPL clubs ceased to have any community connection long ago.
