Just shared a picture about gammon attitudes and have been accused of being racist for using the term...

Surely gammon is a term used to describe an attitude not the characteristics of a race or creed...

It’s derived from the colour the face of someone who holds that attitude turns when faced with something that they don’t agree with...

It’s usually directed at those with right leaning politics but is not used to describe all those people..

It doesn’t bother me that I’ve been called racist, it’s just that the person who said so I do usually consider quite intelligent...

It’s incredibly racist!

is the defence used by those or generally targets. Usually the same sort of people who think saying BLM is racist towards white people or that don’t understand how black favs and golliwogs are anything but harmless fun.

It’s awl PC gawn maaaad

Gammon and 'Karen' seem to be being used as an offensive way to describe someone who has a different opinion on imergration or BLM etc.

I'm not sue it's actually 'racist'. Although both terms are related to things white people do or 'typical white' etc. So you could argue as its generally used to describe someone white in an offensive way its got some racial undertones.

It doesn't bother me. Then again hardly anything does. I read things daily from black or white folk getting 'offended' and just think 'get a grip' 🙄

I ain't gonna lose any sleep about being called a gammon.

I posted something on twitter weeks ago when Alex Scott was mentioned about going on SSN. I basically said she may have a great footballing knowledge but I thought she didn't have the banter level or chemistry to fit in (who tunes in to SSN for great football analysis😂?).

So basically within around 4mins I got called racist / sexist and a 'Gammon'. They failed to notice that I felt the same way about various other white presenters. You can just not like someone because you 'don't' but not based on skin colour or sex. I don't like far more white folk.

Does this make me a 'gammon'... God knows as I can't keep up.

“Racism” is entirely subjective. This is what so many people don’t seem to understand. If someone calls you racist it’s up to you whether you care about their opinion enough to tailor your attitude. You don’t necessarily have to just because someone calls you racist.

Likewise, if you feel you’re being racially marginalised, it isn’t up to someone else to decide whether you’re “correct” or not.

All of the words in that quote are subjective by definition. It isn’t up to “science” whether someone is being racist. It’s about how someone perceives their behaviour and feels as a result.

i still can’t agree with you on that- it’s not really science - and your definition rules out whether the person being racist admits to it or not. Assume the perpetrator admits to being racist , the person receiving the racism is offended by it you can’t really say that’s subjective.

Seems to be plenty of debate about it online

Those on the right have been quick to counter that the term is racist on the grounds that it is intended to maliciously offend people based on the colour of their skin.

It’s very rare for someone to say “I’m a racist.”

But gammon makes no reference to the colour of a person's skin.
