It’s looking like it’s the year of the newly moneyed clubs in the cl this year.

Qatar money via PSG through last night

red bull millions backed Leipzig tonight

and Arab backed billions in man city yet to play.

That's what it's all about and it's what UEFA and FIFA want. It all helps to fill their coffers

Very true

the newly minted clubs are here to stay.

As there’s only real Barca and Bayern of the traditional powerhouse clubs left no Real Madrid no juve no Milan no liverpool no Man U etc

I’m sure Liverpool will be there or thereabouts next season, Man U if they recruit well this transfer window.

bayern will always be up there along with Barcelona and Real such is the monetary advantage they have in the two leagues.

A bit of good luck goes along way in the CL, the margins are often so close.

Money leads to success shocker
No it’s not that as they have always had that money but this year all 3 are through or almost through to the business end of the biggest competition of them all this hasn’t happened before.

because traditionally in the champions league it’s experience and pedigree at that level that often tells in the end.

'because traditionally in the champions league it’s experience and pedigree at that level that often tells in the end'

Yes because Man Utd/Real Madrid/Barcelona etc have never spent a single penny and won that competition based on experience....

To be fair to RB Leipzig they haven't spent an extraordinary amount compared to others. The lad who scored the winner last night only cost £2.3m... we paid £8m for Saville :D

Probably spent the same as a mid-table PL team would... they just have really good recruitment. Sabitzer cost them less than £2m.

And the striker who came in to replace Werner has been there since Division 3, Poulsen.

I’m not sure what I think about Leipzig. Part of me likes the fact that it’s a new name but the other part dislikes the fact that a team detested by the rest of the German football fraternity have bought their way to the top.

I imagine if some team like Cheltenham Town receiving millions from a global supergiant and rising up the leagues to do a Leipzig would draw its detractors.

We could be Red Bull Boro.
C'mon Boro.
Our era was 20 years ago,we were a force then and with better Management could have been something special.
Weren't they amazing times though, I feel very fortunate to have lived through those times.
The likes of Block and his generation are unlikely to see those times again.
As long as we survive and are in tune with the community, that's the importance thing.
You are my Boro.......

Some of the dislike is also to do with their location in Germany rather than just the money.

It's nice to see other teams upset the apple cart.

It's boring seeing the same teams year in year out win the same trophies.

Just look at Celtic in Scotland and Juventus in Italy. It's pathetic.

That's why it was refreshing when Man City/Chelsea broke on the scene to kick Utd off their perch.

As long as they do it fairly and don't break any rules, then I don't have a problem with it.

I didn’t get to see the Robson era but luckily my family is as Boro mad as me so I know all about it and have seen all the goals players news etc from them days. Would be great to have that again. I must say I really enjoyed the Steve McClaren days though. Some of the signings we were making and to win a cup. Brilliant times.

Hope we get there again

Completely agree. Leipzig were a breath of fresh air yesterday trying to play some lovely stuff. I have a lot of respect for Simeone and how he gets results and wins trophies but it’s a disgrace how he didn’t actively try and beat Leipzig from the start. They only started playing once they went behind

Hoping Bayern Munich, Barcelona or Lyon win it.

PSG's owners are evil, Leipzig are just one of many strings in an energy drink company's bow, Man City have dodgy owners and are also part of another rancid "City Group" collection of clubs.

Bayern and Barcelona are traditionally successful clubs, it's true, but there's no huge issues with their ownership.
Lyon have had a lot of success in the France earlier in the 21st century, it'd be good to see them win against the odds in Europe.
