This Clapham attack

What a terrible thread.

It's clear that the guy was unhinged and should not have been granted asylum. The right wing Tories may love this, but this happened on their watch, so perhaps they need to be careful about what they say.

Granted by a court as stated above, rejected by the government, not sure your comment reflects this.

Thoughts with the victims, not playing the blame game on their behalf

There is a lot wrong with the asylum system and I have no suggestions for the solution. This case, even ignoring the crime he is currently on the loose for, shows how the system isn't working. He arrived in the country in 2016, committed sexual assault crimes in 2018 and was granted asylum in 2021. Quicker processing is a must but if he had been processed quickly he wouldn't have had those convictions when he was processed and presumably wouldn't have had to go to a tribunal to be granted asylum. Nothing would then indicate whether or not the crimes he has committed before and after asylum being granted would have happened so I have no idea how we decide who is a criminal (or potential criminal) and shouldn't be granted asylum.

There is obviously an issue that not all asylum seekers are genuinely in need of asylum and are just economic migrants trying to get in through a system that can be "gamed". I think we have to accept the fact that in order to not turn away genuine asylum seekers we have to allow some non-genuine ones through. I think if someone is here to claim asylum and they can't be trusted not to commit crimes, particularly sexual offence crimes, while they are waiting then it should be an easy instant rejection of application. I can't imagine too many members of the public are happy about admitting sexual offenders whichever side of the debate they sit on. I also completely agree that the "religion card" should have absolutely no bearing on the decision.

Rwanda will solve nothing (200 people a year out of 50,000 plus refugees a year) it's a side show. An expensive white elephant that will do nothing to solve any of the issues the Tories have created in our immigration and asylum system.

looks like I failed miserably with my point as… I wholeheartedly agree with you.

we are easily influenced tho.
There are 000’s of attacks daily by men on women and the one that grabs the attention is about an asylum seeker.
The bandwagon rolls and he will become a poster boy for a strong right wing reaction

Are you suggesting this is the norm, and it's because the bloke was an asylum seeker that its getting press...?

Is the below something that happens 100's of times a day??

Witnesses have in the meantime been giving their account of the chemical attack, which police described as "targeted" and say left a 31-year-old mother and her three-year-old daughter with potentially life-changing injuries.

One witness, who asked to remain anonymous, told Sky News: "He grabbed one of the two children and violently grabbed them and slammed them on the floor.

"The lady then shouted 'my eyes, my eyes, call the police, my eyes', then I saw him run off. It was all so traumatising."

Another told us a man dragged a small child and "smashed them on the floor" twice, leaving blood on the ground.

What a weird response.
I can guarantee there wasn’t another acid attack on a family yesterday,
this is why it’s headline news.

Bit all over the place this thread.

Accusing people of focusing their anger on the perpetrator instead of thinking about the victims in one breath, then focusing their own anger on the government in the next.

Claiming the media are obsessed with the asylum seeking status of the attacker whilst also calling it shameful that the government allows asylum seekers like him to be out and about. Isn't that basically doing the same thing?

Some incidents are best not to be used for political point scoring.
Almost as if it's lots of different people expressing varying opinions rather than just one person writing all the posts isn't it? 🤔

How do you repatriate a person who has flushed or eaten their identity ?
Perhaps we should not even consider allowing them consideration of staying in this country If they have no identification, but then there’s the little problem of what we do with them.
As for the routine of making everything political, I seem to remember someone yonks ago finding illegal immigrants on their staff in Downing Street.

Two very surprising things to me from this story, (aside from the obvious how the hell couldn’t anyone do that…)

1) There’s a bloke out in public with what looks like half his face missing and he’s still not been spotted/found

2) Converting to Christianity and subscribing to a different flavour of fairytale can influence an asylum decision.

Crazy how many acid attacks happen looking at the reported figures.

Data from police forces across England and Wales showed there were 710 acid attacks recorded last year (2022), compared with 421 in 2021, according to Acid Survivors Trust International (ASTI)

I have heard of about two in five years. I feel lucky I feel so far removed from stuff like this.

Apparently they occur 100's of times a day according to someone further up and it's all the nasty media picking on this person as he's an asylum seeker...

Acid attacks aren't new, they were around in the Victorian era, but there appears to be an uplift in recent years. As if knife crime wasn't bad enough.

No. The attached was reported across all.media before it was known that it involved an Asylum seeker.

nothing being said about the South London cross-bow stalker - the lad , shot dead by police, born in Sheffield, he lived in Middlesbrough till 2015 (his dad moved between university's as a lecturer), when it looks like he went of to University in Aberystwyth.

30 years of age.
This cross bow stalker ?

I think the fact Abdul Shakoor Ezedi is on the run after such a despicable attack is keeping him in the news.

Both political parties have been responsible for unfettered immigration where criminals have been entering this country for years. We have enough of our own criminals why allow even more in?

So we now have Albanian gangs running drug dealing and prostitution in most major cities. ( Albania another safe country that these thugs stressed is unsafe and subsequently allowed into the UK. )

The civil service is now running the asylum system. The views of the majority of people in this country who want stricter regulation and people 'illegally' living here sent back are being ignored.

They are telling us that Turkey is not a 'safe' country to send people back to and yet thousands of Britons holiday there each year.

Our population is rising significantly with pressure on the NHS, Schools, and the Criminal Justice System. Kent has particularly taken the brunt of unlimited migration with local, English born residents, struggling to find school placements for their own children.

Meanwhile the tax payers are paying millions of pounds to house people in hotels when our own war veterans are sleeping on the street. This is the reality.

As the saying goes 'You couldn't make it up'
