River Tees - source to mouth

Was looking at googlemaps yesterday and ended up checking the path of the river tees - fancy doing a mini local version of lewis and clarke and wondered if anyone here has done it or extensive parts of it. Id really like to go down the actual river itself but having never done anything like that before wouldnt know what the laws are for such a thing and how practical it was, ie is it consistently navigable from a given point. Always wanted to do the same along the esk and the other river thats out that way - think you see a lot of it from the train to whitby from teesside

Me and my mate are planning to run the Teesdale Way later this year. Starts at Dufton and over High Kop before snaking alongside the Tees all the way to the South Gare. It’s fairly well sign posted and decent paths for most of the route.
How long is it estimated to take?

Good luck with it

Travelling the Tees a great LP from the Teesside Fettlers - the lyrics from one of the songs say the source of the Tees is Cauldron Snout, a fantastic water cascade on the top of the Pennines.

When I saw your lewis and river tees connection, I immediately thought of that other lewis of mad hatter fame. I seem to recall him having spent some time on the upper reaches of said river.

It’s the textbook example of a perfect river, it has all the various aspects of a river clearly demonstrated and is used in many syllabus for this reason.

I am on a conquest to cross every bridge across the Tees. The very first bridge in Cumbria (Moor House Bridge) is in the middle of nowhere and a great place where you could sit undisturbed for hours.
