Gary O'Neil

Makes you wonder what the criteria is for these type of jobs. I guess you can point to his premier league longevity, but he's such a 'meh' player it's difficult to see what Liverpool could possibly see in him.

Liverpool Harriers Athletics club will have a superb 10,000m, Steeplechase and marathon side in 5 years!

Jose Mourinho, Arsene Wenger, Sven-Goran Eriksson, Jurgen Klopp.... All had worse careers than Gary O'Neil. Playing ability doesn't always mean you will be a great, or poor manager.

Don’t like the bloke after his stint here as a player but surely no one can judge him as a coach until he’s had a fist of it? I would say I wish him well but I don’t really but given Liverpool see something in him I wouldn’t be surprised to see him go and have a decent coaching career

Just to counter that, Woodgate was involved in the backroom at Liverpool.

Very true, as a scout though not a coach. Apparently he was actually very good at that at Liverpool. If he scouted Bola and Browne for us I would question that myself, but I am not sure I believe that. Just glad he’s away from the club now.

if he does come back in some capacity ( I hope not) I would prefer it either to be working with youngsters or maybe a scout if he was indeed successful at Liverpool as portrayed

He very recently hosted a session on Talk Sport where they were asking for suggestions as to horrendous value for money signings.
I can't believe nobody rang in and said Gary O'Neil to Middlesbrough for £5m.
He was seriously awful.
Has another player been relegated more times from the top flight?
