I know it was a free but why would they let him go? Do they have n other players in this area?
They offered him a new contract but the quotes I read from Les Ferdinand were that the club had to make some tough decisions given the economic climate. So reading between the lines they were either offering him reduced wages or a shorter contract than he wanted.
He turned their contract down a few weeks back in June:-

That's got to be a concern. Hopefully he's betterI've been reading QPR social media from mid-June, when they announced he'd left the club. Most of their fans seem to be frustrated that he left them, but there were also loads of references to him being constantly injured. He played 130 games in 5 seasons, which sounds impressive at first, but it's actually only about half of the games the club would've played during that time.
He did an Ayala. A longterm servent but couldn't match his former wages and he turned the deal down.
I'm actually surprised we got him. He's a proven CB in the champo. It will be interesting to see if he is made captain?
The good thing is they clearly wanted to keep him.
It sounds like we've replaced Ayala with same: good at this level, injury-prone, regarded as a bit mercenary by fans. Moreover, Ayala's conduct now looks like standard practice.
