Barnsley getting a say

Why are Barnsley getting a say in the Wigan points deduction hearing? I get they are affected but what are they going to say ‘yeah, ok we’ll go down instead’. I really feel for Wigan’s fans because what has happened to their club is a disgrace BUT they don’t have a leg to stand on re COVID force majeure as their owner bought them 3 months into lockdown UK and 6 months into the pandemic! If the league remove the penalty they are also admitting their own failings in the whole Wigan affair and putting themselves in the untenable position of not being fit for purpose. The whole situation is a farce but the deduction must stand. What should be happening is Sheff Wed and Derby being demoted for their financial misdealings and Wigan and Charlton staying up instead of them but that’s another story.

I think they just want the league to be aware that they are a stable club and a viable entity going forward. Wigan are absolutely not. As you say it is an open and closed case. I fear the league feel that Sheff Wed and Derby are too big to be demoted and will get a points penalty this year, which will not be any sort of punishment whatsoever. I hope I am wrong though.

Yeah, I hope you’re wrong too. If not demoted this year then both should start next season on -21 Points imo.

Reminds me of the clubs around us that wrote to the fa in 97 about our 3 points Harry redknapp being one of them ( Southampton if I recall)

You're right I seem to remember him popping up in the press slagging us off and saying we needed to be punished at every opportunity. Slippery fecker, with a face that has more wrinkles than a tortoises ball sack, never liked him.

I think Tony Parkes was another one who was sticking the knife in at that time, not sure if he was in caretaker charge around then or just having a lot to say for himself.

The whole 3 points affair still annoys me all these years later!

I wrote a letter of complaint to Tony Parkes who was manager of Blackburn at the time on the basis that he should leave the matter to the appropriate disciplinary panel rather than seek to influence the decision through his many comments in the press.
I was then surprised when he rang me up at home to discuss it. I think it was a bit naughty on his part because my letter was not threatening in any way and I suspect he had a policeman sat next to him listening to the call.
He kept saying that he didn‘t want any trouble with Boro fans almost as a provocation but I had no intention to cause any problems other than letting him know that I thought he was out of order setting himself up as judge and jury in the media.
He was ok but he was cold and I did think that once the chat had established that I wasn’t a hooligan he got off the call very quickly.

great story btw....as if tat would happen in present day

He must have deduced you weren’t a hooligan from the fact that he had received a written letter of complaint from you.
You would have thought so but obviously I don’t know what else he was getting from other Boro supporters at the time, we are going back well over 20 years in the days before social media and not that long after the dark violent days of the 1980’s, maybe somebody had give him some abuse.

Yeah absolutely on Wayne Rooney's Derby County and Sheff Wed.

I kind of understand Barnsley wanting to put their point across but I don't see what it's got to do with Wigan's appeal which is surely on the facts of the case. I.e. have they broken the rules and are there any mitigating circumstances that might justify a lesser penalty. The fact other clubs are affected and how well run or otherwise those clubs are is irrelevant surely?

Was it attached to a brick? :D
Me and a friend once tried to gatecrash an England press conference at Lancaster gate to complain about the three points. We were very drunk though, so it may not have been the FA headquarters and just some random building.

Its a mess
Charlton and Wigan will be up in arms about Sheff Wed getting their deduction next season
In League 2 Macclesfield not been deducted enough to be relegated and EFL appealling against them staying up instead of Stevenage!!
Why?
