For £110 Mill, fair play to Brighton for holding out, I think the initial bid at the start was £60 Mill. Good deal?

On a side note West Ham rejected £88 mill from Man City for Paqueta, that's crazy to turn down.

Who's head of Brightons recruitment team? That's who teams like Liverpool and Chelsea should be 'buying'.

The amount of 'unheard' of players they pick up for 5-10mil (or less) and sell on is stunning buisness. The money that club has made in transfers in the last 2 years.

Just a cracking run club. They don't seem to be any weaker for it.

To think we went toe to toe with them for promotion. It's safe to say they've 'kicked on' to another level.

Didn’t he join Newcastle last year

Crazy money - he’s not worth anywhere near the amounts suggested

Flopp always moaning about other teams big spending, they can’t afford big fees and then suddenly this lol

They said the same about Southampton, great recruitment, and a feeder club for Liverpool.
But eventually it caught up with them, If Brighton continues to sell all their best players it will, one day catch them out!!

Problem with selling players after only 1 or 2 seasons, you get no consistency and no cohesion within the squad, its like a revolving door, foundations need to be laid properly for clubs to progress. But their idea of just hanging onto players till clubs cough up, is great because at least they can re invest all over.

Its all down the owners background in data analysis. He and the Brentford owner used to be partners.
Theres some great YouTube videos about them both

Paqueta has an £85m release clause that kicks in next season. They want to keep him this season so they can reject knowing they will most likely get £85m next year unless they get a bid now way over £85m which seems unlikely.

Brighton's head of recruitment is Paul Jewell's son haha. It was Paul Winstanley but he went to Chelsea with Potter. Think Jewell has been there doing a lot of their scouting for young players for years anyway though.

I think they met at Uni didn't they, after which they went into business together, only to ha e a very acrimonious parting if the ways.

I like the way Brighton have handled this, effectively sealed bids before midnight last night, for any interested clubs.

He's a very good player, but £110m?

A big part of football is lost on me these days, I have to admit.

The biggest reason that Brighton can do this is because they don't try and hold on to players. They get good players to sign for them because they are setup to be a stepping stone. If they held onto players too long then those good players wouldn't go there but they let them go as soon as they get a a good bid for them.

There must be hundreds of seriously undervalued players out there.

Just look at how undervalued Hackney almost became. If you have a system for spotting these rough diamonds then you pretty much have mastered turning base metal to gold.
I thought both Brighton and Brentford have a similar stats based approach- it obviously a complex algorithm, but in essence, it's data driven.

Money in football is just beyond ridiculous now.

I was watching Sky Sports News last night, as they had 5 blokes sat around the table all getting so overly excited by these stupid amounts of money. Had to turn it off as it was just nauseating.
