Malt Shovel / Dr Brown's

Passed by and was saddened by the vacant Dr. Browns on my recent Boro visit. It sure was a great pub in its day!

Post-match this time I visited pub a few doors down and closer to town. Don’t remember the name of it but it was VERY busy.

Had some great times in there, early to late 90s. The band scene back then felt really vibrant.... although that may well be more to do with hindsight and the fact that I was young. I remember a Scarborough band, name of Raggedy Ann, coming up and playing once. I bought one of their tapes(!), entitled Elvis Told Us To Do It, which is still to this day my favourite title for an album.

It was called Touchdown in the early 1980s - a bit out of the Town at the time, but building the Riverside in 1995 moved the Town a bit more toward it.

It's very sad that it's up for sale , but running a boozer now is so so risky as an independent..
The overheads are stupidly risky , you'd need very deep pockets ..

Very busy once a week on match days , and a few dozen nursing pints on open mic nights won't cut it with 7 day overheads sadly

Pig Iron?

I remember being in there and stood at one of the cask barrels and told my girlfriend now wife, I loved her for the 1st time in there. Good memories.

My mate decided to become a pipe smoker one day when we were sat by the first in the early 90's. He was 16 year old so it was a bit unusual at the time.
