Henderson to Saudi!

Surely not..
How rich do you need to be?
Why would you sacrifice- self respect, reputation, legacy, good years of your career, your place in the England squad, playing in probably the best league in the world...just so you can be very very very rich instead of just very very rich?
I've always really liked him too, would be so disappointed if he ends up taking the desert dollar.

Hes a bit part player for Liverpool and England now and how do you know what his finances look like.

I'm sure if someone offered you a lucrative job you would turn it down.

33yo making £700k A WEEK

Over £70m for two years work… that is crazy money. Self respect? Reputation? Legacy?

A bit part player? He played 43 times for Liverpool last season. 9 times for England, including most games at the World Cup.
How do I know what his finances look like? They are a matter of public record. He currently makes 7.2 million pounds a year. He is already incredibly wealthy.
Your last statement is the only one which is even remotely accurate. Yes I would definitely turn it down.

To be honest this just shows taking the knee and pro lgbt stuff is complete virtue signalling from footballers .

They never did give a **** about this stuff . It was all to look good on social media
I wouldn't tarnish all players with this brush, but Henderson as an individual has really let himself and others down with this.

True, although they haven’t all gone to Saudi (yet).

Putting aside the morals of playing in Saudi, the fact is this is a top England international the PL is losing out on to a vastly inferior league. He may be over the hill but, as said, played most of our WC campaign. Feels like this transfer would take the whole thing to a new level.

They’ll be after Kane next. I wonder if they’ll let him wear his arm band…..

Yeah he doesn’t seem the type does he, this one surprises me.

Hard to turn down that lunatic money if you’re told you’re being phased out at Liverpool though.

His new teammates will have to brush up on mackem swear words said extremely quickly, I’ve never seen a player talk so much **** on the pitch as Hendo.

Genuinely don't see an issue with the likes of Henderson going to play in the Saudi League at 33 years old. He has been there and done it at the very top for over 10 years. One last (massive) pay day, fair play to him. Not many would turn that down in reality, if anyone?

The deals that irk me are the likes of Ruben Neves (26), Jota (24), Bernado Silva (28) (if he signs) and even Gerrard as a young manager. It's difficult to see top talent moving to a clearly sub-standard league, when they have the potential to play and compete with the very best. But each to their own I guess.

And all those having a pop would turn down that kind of money?
Of course not. Hypocrites.
I can promise that if I was already a muti multi millionaire I would definitely turn down a move to Saudi.

Why would anyone who didn't absolutely have to want to go and live in a medieval backwards society?

It's pure unadulterated greed that leads to footballers moving there. This is not some poor teesside O&G worker who feels like they have no choice but to go there.

Why not?

Is it that hard to believe some people's morals might prevent them agreeing to taking money from a murderous regime like Saudi Arabia?

Particularly if they were already a multi millionaire (admittedly much much harder to turn down if you're not already incredibly wealthy, but that's not the case).

I wouldn't go if I was Henderson. How many tens of millions does need in his bank account?

He and other footballers are in an incredibly privileged position. They could take a stand and set an example. Or they can show any principles they claim to have can be compromised for a price. Up to them, but I think it's fair game to criticise them if it's the latter.

They, and Linekar and Neville etc all had the opportunity to 'take a stand' with Qatar and did nowt.
I agree it's fair game to criticise, people just shouldn't pretend they'd do diffrently if they were offered the same opportunity.
