I was just thinking about the question I asked on here recently about usernames.

I was wondering it if might be interesting for people to be able to read a bit about the history of the fanzine, the email list(s) and the various incarnations of the message board/forum.

Might it be possible for someone to write a short article about the history of all stuff FMTTM? So we can all understand where this wonderful place has come from.

Obviously it could be written from Rob's first person experience.

Rivals was a hosting site with lots of team forums in one place

Before I found this place I read/posted on BigWatfordLove, which I’m pretty sure was on the Rivals network. It was funny as f*#k. Some of the humour was slightly dark, one of the users was called KenBigleysHead, but it never went too far. Then posters started to leave and it wasn’t as good after that, so for some reason I had a look on here and it was a good laugh, so I stayed.

I did try numerous Liverpool messageboards but they were either shîte or not busy enough, i.e., ShanklyGates, which was also on the Rivals network.

How I remember it....

As others have said, the history of Boro on the internet really starts with Tim Lloyd, a Boro ex-pat in Hong Kong. He set up a mailing list, probably around 1992 or 93, which meant you basically sent an email to an address, and all the subscribers to the mailing list then received a copy of that mail and could reply, and everyone on the list would receive a copy of the reply (and repeat). Sometimes you'd be getting 200+ emails a day at its peak, as the ARG (Anti Robson Groups) and PRG (Pro Robson Group) fought a running battle about the merits of Robbo as a manager. Tim sadly died, probably early 2000's, but his place in Boro internet history is firmly cemented.

I first recall the FMTTM website back in about 1996 / 97 where a rudimentary Flash game which allowed you to punch Ravanelli (obviously this was after he left) until his face caved in, and attached to this glorious game was the initial messageboard. A move to Rivals at some point probably saw the boards heyday coinciding with our European adventures but Rob can do a far better job of telling the story than I can.
