Ryan Giles

Potentially hit the nail on the head there mate.

I take the age point, however I actually think players can be coached/ improved throughout their career depending on the manager/ coaching staff. I certainly think at 23 Giles can still and will improve on the defensive side.
I thought he improved quite a bit through the season on his defensive duties

He improved a lot defending one on one against wingers and tactical he got better as well however he is still really poor defensively in the air and his upper body strength is also weak can that be improved i am not so sure.

I thought he improved a bit too, defensively, but I do think that affected his willingness to press forward and make crosses. In the last few games, he only seemed to do so when we were chasing, now that could also be down to instruction.

I like Giles and would be happy for him to return at the right price, but Manning on a free is tempting and he adds more defensively

Physically he is what he is, I suppose. I do recall him musceling one of the Coventry players of the ball in the second leg, so he can do it.

You are right about his heading though.

I do wonder why he doesn't occasionally cut inside and have a go himself.

Looking likely, but nothing concrete yet.......
Leicester have some money, with parachute payments and a few pounds in the bank from sales.
Probably gives them advantage over us £££.

That’s why I was saying I’d be very happy if we got anywhere near what we achieved last year, the size of the clubs that have come down and their pulling power, coupled with the likes of Watford & Norwich who’ll still have parachute payments.

It’s going to be a very difficult summer.

Interesting - I've read that we're looking at another loan deal but with an obligation to buy at around £20m

Obviously that's far too risky
Obligation if we go up?

That doesn't sound risky, if he's good enough to get in our side and we go up, he's gonna be worth £10m then at least, even if we wanted to get rid. £10m to make up, which would be a small price to pay, for getting in the prem, and it solves a big problem for this year.

Will they be able to afford him? They're going to be screwed by wages still aren't they, and they're going to need half a team? I thought they might be more interested in decent loans, and if it comes down to a loan then surely we can match his wages?

A bit risky for them splashing loads of cash, with an unproven manager, with the other two teams who came down, plus teams like us competing. If they get that wrong and miss out on promotion they could end up in a really bad way.

I don't think they're going to be able to spend £80m on 8 players for example, assuming Giles is worth what £10m?

Also Giles needs to agree, he hopefully knows we're going to be competitive (hopefully) and liked it here with Carrick (I assume).

The last time Maresca was a manager it looks like he was at Parma, and didn't do very well it seems?

Leicester are in for a major rebuild. Seven players on whopping wages have left at the end of their contracts. They wont "splash the cash", but they have more funds than many and still have James Maddison on the market for £50 million. He will go.
