Hayden Hackney

Some rose tinted folk about. Good player perhaps. Great player - ask Coventry City's players who pretty much pocketed him (and the rest of the Boro players) for nearly 200mins of football.

Will need another season in championship, and will need to show continued improvement throughout.

Good luck to the lad.

Hackney has been nothing short of superb since he broke through into the first team. He's made that central role his and even showed he can play further forward to good effect.

Judging him v Coventry is pretty low. We didn't best Cov due to Hackney's limitations, it's a collective team effort and we pretty much ran out of steam and the injuries leading up to the playoffs pretty much killed any momentum.

Hackney has a lovely poise and balance, great first touch and can pass well. He's also got a great competitive streak. He's probably as good as anything that's come out of our academy since Downing and Morrison.

Just add: every season we see players going for stupid money, so you can't say no one will pay this that or the other for him. If he's been targeted, big bids will follow

"Reportedly shown an interest" well that's it then he's off. FFS 😂

I'd more surprised if the didn't have an interest. In him and every other promising young player at championship level.

The scouting networks at these clubs are so extensive you could say it of every half decent player and you'd probably be right. I'm sure they'll be monitoring his development, not exactly a story though.

I'd be more disappointed about losing Hackney than I would be about losing Akpom to be fair.

Akpom had an amazing season but I still worry that he's going to prove to be a one-season wonder. Hackney I believe has the potential to be a Premier League midfielder if he continues to develop and improve. Think he's the best talent we've had come through the academy since Tav.

Again though, this is the sad reality of what type of club we'll always be when competing in the Championship. If the price is right, we'll sell.

What price tag did you hang on Tav last season?

Do you rate Hackney better than Tav?

My point is that there's always plenty of talk about daft money for young players, and yet it hardly ever materialises.

Thinking about stupid numbers bandied about this board for the likes of Spence, Tav and Jones. No takers at all form Jones - even at his very best. As fans, most of us are guilty of overestimating the value of our players.

Time will tell, so we will what bids land for the lad. I can't see him in a Liverpool, Newcastle, Arsenal shirt anytime soon. Can you?

It’s kind of a similar situation to Akpom in that both players were unrecognizable previously for different reasons of course. Next season they need to show their consistency before any premier league team will take a risk in them. I reckon both players will stay another two years before they (possibly) move on.

To think Akpom didn't even get invited on the pre season trip to Portugal. Hackney never had a kick and would probably been loaned out again.

Madness we could be making multi millions for the pair. Just shows what a Doyle Wilder was.
An dont forget our "development player" who chipped in with 10 goals in 38 appearances!
Didnt realise what a complete dobba Wilder was. (n)

Hackney only signed a new big bumper contract back in January I think.

Safe to say we're in a very strong position at the negotiating table if the big boys come knocking.

Every single player has a value - even Mbappe/Haaland/Messi etc.
