Wigan deducted 8 points for next season.

Wigan are starting next season in League One on -4 points for repeatedly failing to pay wages.

Also been deducted a further 3 points from their total this season, and have a suspended points deduction hanging over them.

They're having no luck with owners, repeatedly getting ****ed over by them.

What's the point of the 3 point deduction for this season?
Also the further 4 point deduction suspended until 30th June 24 is an odd timetable, if it is to be applied to next season - which will have already ended 6 weeks earlier.

It helped relegate them

It'll only activated if their owners don't follow the conditions during next season, they're not waiting till that time to deduct it regardless, that's when the prospect of the deduction is lifted.

I'd guess it's just following procedure with the additional deduction this season, as Wigan's owners definitely breached the conditions set from their first deduction.
I suspect the EFL are probably relieved that they'd have gone down with or without the deductions.

No it didn't. The existing 3 point deduction did that. This is an additional 3 points on top of that. They were already relegated.

They would have went down without any points deductions.

It's two deductions this season for two separate breaches, it's surely just following procedure rather than them trying to add insult to injury.

Understood. I think 🙂

It just seems odd. Don't they carry other deductions over to the next season if they are relegated regardless? Started after Leeds screwed the system.

That's just for administration, to prevent clubs trying to wipe their debts when they already know they're going down anyway.

They need to just sell Koumas, balance the books.

It must be heartbreaking for their poor supporters,I remember listening to one on a podcast before we played them saying with this new manager I hope we've turned a corner. Proper supporters who stick by their team through this, specially with all them massive clubs on their doorstep.

Currently out of the relegation zone after 2 and a half games.
Boro lad Charlie Wyke has scored 3 for them so far this season.
