Just set up alerts if on iOS or keep an eye on them some other way like the website in first post but you don't really have to check every day

If you don't have a smart meter I would get one - the ihd will be wrong as it's a tracked product, but it means you have daily billing in stead of averaged prices

Other than that it pretty much runs itself

Thanks for the reply, this is what I've been sent

4.3p gas today 👀
Was thinking about this the other day. I don't suppose you can join the wait list for this specific tariff whilst a customer elsewhere?

I've a three year fix that finishes in Sep so moving before then would be stupid given my current rate.

Would be great to join the list and jump to octopus when there's a spot in the autumn, but it wouldn't make sense at all for them to allow me to do that.

Yes you can, on the tracker page there is a form you can fill in that captures your details and then when ready I suppose they contact you. I've done friends on the waiting list as they've had a fix until May.

It depends if the queue remains 6 months I guess.

Once you join fully, you can apply a referral code retrospectively via the online portal to benefit from the £50 credit

Just a bit of an update for those still unsure...process are trending downwards and epg will drop from July

The current EPG rates are 33.2p for elec and 10.3p for gas

Today with octopus we are paying 16.9p for electricity 3.6p for gas. These are also trending downwards so savings will continue.

To put that into a month's context just for electricity if we were on a standard epg tariff, we'd be paying £149.58 for our electricity we used in April, including standing charges. On octopus tracker, we paid £89.14; a saving of £60.14, and that is just electricity.

Gas is 2.8X cheaper than EPG, obviously heating isn't on right now but you're still saving on what you're using.

If anyone wants me to work out what you'd be paying vs what you are now, drop your kWh usage figures for each fuel in this thread.

Current waiting list still says 6 months but from people who have joined it's looking like 2-3, and you can either join now and wait or you can join the waiting list and switch when tracked is available for you. Either way you'll get £50 added to your account if you join via the below link

My current contract with EDF ends on 31st of August. Not sure what to do. If I apply for the waiting list now what are the ramifications. Currently paying £140 per month butthat is on a two year fix. Any advice welcome as I am not great on this stuff. My current tariff is 17.73p per unit of electricity with a standing charge of 23.21p. Gas is 3.678p per unit with a standing daily charge of 26.60p.

You can apply for the tracker tariff now, and see what happens - if you get on it in say 3 months, then it could be worth you switching BUT make sure you check if you have early exit fees as many fixes do, if so ask or check what the terms are.

Tbh if you get on the tracker earlier the charges are pretty close to your fix right now but standing charges are a bit more but it's like 20p per day. Worth applying to get on the waiting list as that isn't considered a binding contract or anything it's just a form to say you're interested and they email you when you can join it

There is a link on here to join the waitlist just put your email on that

When they email you, search for this thread or drop me a pm and I'll run through the maths with you to show you what you'd pay now vs octopus vs epg but for now with your fix I think you're good for a while

In the news today price cap coming down to about £2k

That comes up to these unit rates. Current octopus tracker is 16.7p elec and 3.65p gas

Cornwall insights have said they don't expect standard tariffs to reach 2020 levels this decade

In view of the news today, the sensible thing is to NOT commit yourself to any fixed term with any company for the next couple of months.
Then will be the time to look at companies which will surely be returning to competitive deals and you can pick and choose again.

Cornwall insights suggests fixed term deals will be around the energy price cap, giving "consistency" but not really saving much.

The beauty of octopus tracker product is it has no fixed term, no exit fees and if prices did go up you can switch to the standard product within 24 hours.

This is crazy that prices aren't coming down quicker, the gas price is lower than what it was for 90% of the time between 2014 and 2020. Maybe they don't think the standard price will come down just due to risk of it being jacked up by more or longer conflict etc?

Not really going to cut down peoples bills by the looks of it, just means we're paying less tax to fund the government paying the difference.

I think the law is changing so that companies get forced to take up the CFD's, which pay the agreed £40/MW, rather than the £100/MW they're currently getting (and raking it in).

Thing is it's only just dropped to those levels and I believe they need a period of stability for prices to see meaningful drops, at least this is a start anyway.

Octopus tracker is definitely trending down but it is slow and it's spring so lower gas usage

Our MTD figures we've used £67 elec and £21 gas so far this month - £88. On epg it would have been £107 elec and £46 gas; £153. £65 saved so far. 42.48% savings.

Using the new rates, we would have paid £100.16 elec and £35.91 gas so £136.07; octopus tracker currently 35% cheaper than the new cheaper govt rates

Late to the party on the this, but my fixed with BG ends in about a month so definitiely going to go on the waiting list and see whats what. Currently payng about £250/month 😭
