Just started watching , episode 2 tonight, Canada looks a great place but vast, I think the annoying couple this time will be the dad and daughter, Kevin and Claudia, can see Kevin not wanting to do much hardship, already spending a lot on taxi’s and buying treats like a pint or coffees.

I do enjoy this program. Just the right amount of competition and people watching in among the amazing scenery and interesting local geography etc.

Agree with you on the Kevin bloke. It's like he doesn't quite understand the whole premise of the competition. If the thing was achievable by taking taxi's and buying beer then it would not be much of a challenge. I suspect that the penny will drop at some point, but they have already spent much more than all the other teams for a 5 minute lead. If they penny does not drop, then they will not make it to the end at all.

I think that the other dad and daughter team will likely win, but its early days yet.

$500 For a taxi need to be smarter. Its great show brings people close again.Enjoyed the mother and son also sister and brother bickering last series inspires me to go back to South America.

I have loved the first two series so hoping this Canadian adventure is just as good.
Canada is an amazing country; I spent a month travelling across it when younger.

I enjoy it. Only thing I don't like is when they have a checkpoint that causes a bottleneck so everyone gets there at the same time whatever they do. The 1st episode with the once a week ferry being a prime example. Would've been better to just make the ferry port itself the checkpoint.

Even though the traffic going that far North was limited it seemed the choice of people there was greater, if you get my drift. How did the 1st two (no spoilers) get there, did not see their run in!!
Hopefully their next checkpoint has a variety of options to the next destination.

Me and my wife applied for this series before Covid. We were asked to submit a video application before it was canned due to Covid. Our little lad then came along which meant we couldn’t continue. Love this show and there’s a little bit more of a vested interest in this series.

The actual contest is an absolute nonsense isn’t it. It’s just a great travelogue interrupted by some manufactured race stuff by the programme’s production team.
I am pretty sure they get the couples all together and give them each a different option on how to get to their destination to ensure they don’t all take the same route. The first episode had them all on the same ferry to the island at the end and then slipped in shots of them “dashing” along the seafront to reach their goal.

It's a possibility but last nights episode showed the same couples hitch hiking from the same spot. Are the BBC actually allowed to do that with prize money on offer though? Even so it's still great watching.

It’s great watching I agree but I can’t help the feeling the “competition” is heavily manipulated to heighten the tension and excitement. But that’s TV for you. I am a cynical b***r when it comes to this stuff sadly.

We have just watched Outlast on Netflix which was great for the first four episodes but then it became like a series instead of real life.

I've never been to Canada but I've been to places like Australia and New Zealand where a town on a map is nothing more than a big service station so stopping points that seem logical to an outsider on a single main road would be logical for anyone looking at it. Wouldn't be a massive coincidence to stop in the same place and bump into someone.

Don't think it is fixed but they definitely get some help because otherwise how are they contacting these "work opportunities" to let them know they are coming or not (and to stop everyone going to the same one). The cameraman/producer with them must have a phone so maybe they do get help and maybe there are hidden penalties for using help. What would they do if one team took 30 days for example when everyone else took 10?

I often think what would happen if a couple chose to just go nuts, stay in lush hotels, go on sightseeing adventures and take the mick, turn up a week late and then be happy to be 'eliminated' at the first opportunity because by then they've already had a free holiday for a fortnight if not more?

Side note, Canada seems amazing. The car sharing side of it is brilliant.

Also, i often wonder why teams dont ever join forces. Like join up, hire a car, split the driving and the costs and just go from A to B straight away and agree to turn up together so leave together the next day - or would that not make good tv?

1. There is one road in and out of the second location they had to get to. It was either the road through Canada, or take the longer route with 2 border crossings to Alaska and back then arrive from the other direction. Look at the map to get a sense of how remote those locations are, and how it is highly likely they would be seen together at the same time.

2. The first couple to arrive at location two were a full 25 hours ahead of the second. There has to be a degree of tension otherwise the show doesn’t do what is says on the tin, so you won’t get a real sense of where each of them in relation to time/each other until they’ve checked in.

3. No point being first at any location until the last one, whether to spend money now or later is the leveller. In this series the options increase as you move east, the Cockney geezer and his daughter spending 500 dollars on a taxi could be a genius move or a chance wrecker….who knows.
I have forgotten how things work. Does being 1st get you anything at any point? Is it a head start leaving the checkpoint? I know they start getting eliminated so not finishing last is the main goal but there must be a benefit from coming 1st over 2nd? The $500 taxi only got them a win by a few minutes. If it is a head start (or a cumulative headstart for the final leg) then I can't see that few minutes being good value.

When all the teams arrive, they leave in the order they turn up. So if you get there first, you've got a headstart on the next leg

How much headstart though? Is it a fixed value or is the 15 mins gap from ep1 the same as the 1 day gap from ep2?

I'm not sure actually, because on ep2 a team arrived a whole 25 hours before another team so i cant see them been given that head start but we'll see next week - or maybe someone else knows?

It's fixed based on the time you arrive ahead of the next couple.
So them who finished 25 hours ahead, will get that headstart on the next leg? Im sure a similar thing happened on a previous episode/series and that didn't happen and i remember thinking it was unfair?

Still cannot see how they arrived a full 25 hours without us seeing how they did it. They hired a car to Whitehouses and that was it.
