Fair point. The thing with Tallentire he was close with a few of the local lads downing etc so I always took what he said with a pinch of salt and still do.

They do have incentivisation through performance based bonuses though, such as promotion/survival etc. With all contracts with managers it is impossible to insert performance related clauses in - they just wont sign them and certainly the managers association wouldn't advise them to.
Valdes - FreeThe players signed in 2016-17 season were mainly poor signings, the budget too small.
The summer outlay was pathetic and the January dallying still left us lowest PL spenders.
We simply didn't have enough going forward and Karanka could only keep us tight through 2016.
I don't think Karanka was blameless, but I am certain he needed much much better support after promotion. If Gibson had doubts he should have parted company in the May of 2016.
I think he lost faith with some of the players who got us up. A lot of those signings above were no better than what we had.Valdes - Free
Barragan - £1.5m
Chambers - Loan
Espinosa - Free
Fabio - £2m
Traore - Swap
De Roon - £10m
Forshaw - £3m
Fischer - £3.5m
Ramirez - Free
Negredo - Loan
With the power of hindsight.. who do you sign instead? For that sort of money. Valdes and Negredo around £5m a pop..
Bamford £5.5m
Guedioura £4.5m
Gestede £6m
Espinosa was injured, Fisher was injured, Ramirez was ruined by pally fanny, Traore was a genie, Valdes was a tool, Barragan could take a throw in, Fabio was a right back..I think he lost faith with some of the players who got us up. A lot of those signings above were no better than what we had.
Viktor Fischer - a player I'd almost totally forgotten about.
I’d have backed him in the summer window when he needed it. He would then have kept us up IMHO.Probably right in hindsight but how would the fans have viewed that days after the Brighton game?
True, we did have an awful summer 2016.I’d have backed him in the summer window when he needed it. He would then have kept us up IMHO.
