Blades in strife?

I wonder why the EFL has the rule about going into admin before a certain date. Is that to give the 'offending team' time to make good any shortfall in points or for purely competition purposes. Surely if you go into admin at any point in the season or say before June 30th, you should be deducted points. I can imagine a lot of what is in the article is true - bit difficult to make up some of the stuff in there.

It's to prevent teams that are already getting relegated anyway waiting till the last moment to go in to administration, effectively negating the punishment.

Ah. I see. So that the deduction comes the following season to have a sporting impact. What happens if you get promoted? Can they deduct the points the next time you are in the championship, even if it's a few years later?

I don't want to go up on a technicality, not like they've taken the **** this season. Does make me think sometimes we're punished sticking to the rules. We know Stoke will be stronger next season, like Gibbo sticks to the rules.

A technicality. I don’t really mind how we go up after that game at Sunderland when the ref. virtually gave Sheff Utd an extra 2 points when he let that clearly offside “winning goal” stand.

Didnt stop them up the road 🤣

We got relegated on a technicality once. Would be a bit of footballing karma if we got promoted on one. ;)

Besides, if they go into admin its because they've lived beyond their means and kept hold of players they should have sold in January. That's surely a form of cheating every other club in the league that played by the rules.

Been saying for weeks they are in trouble. They owe money, takeover hasn’t been completed and it’s a no go. They need to be deducted 12 points as a minimum and as said above, whoever finishes 3rd will sue if they go up second and then get placed into administration.

Also must be some truth in it as their forum has closed comments and blocked threads to do with administration - wonder if club has put pressure on to remove.

If this is even half true and they go up having not paid for players that got them up we might as well all be cheating. You just have to be in the top two cheaters in one season and you win the jackpot. The system actually incentivises cheating. We are the mugs.

There’s def something in it. Papers don’t print stories like this without any merit.

This situation is different to Leicester, QPR and Villa. They didn't go into administration, they broke financial fair play in football league.

If Sheffield do go into administration then they will have to be out of it before the start of next season, which I assume is July 1st otherwise premier league would not allow them in surely.

Prem would at a guess only promote and relegate 2 teams is my guess and Sheff U would be in limbo.

Or is this just a bit of wishful thinking by me? (Apart from w up obviously)

If they’ve cheated it isn’t a technicality, we’re the highest placed legitimate team and therefore winners.
