South stand atmosphere

I’ve noticed There has been a divide with Boro supporters in the south stand in recent weeks and nobody seems to know why, also RF getting a lot of verbal abuse over socials from boro supporters regarding new songs/drum which I don’t agree with personally, the new songs might not be everyone’s cup of tea but there’s ways to go around it other than calling them worse than sh**, they’ve got a group official account on Facebook/Twitter so they are only a message away and I’m sure they’d be open to listen to fan feedback.

I sit in the south west upper and have noticed that RF are the only ones in the stadium willing to sing for 90 minutes regardless of song choice, the critics who are calling them are more than likely the ones who can only be bothered to sing when somethings goods happening on the pitch. I think some boro fans maybe a little harsh on them considering they’re there supporting the same team and trying to do more than most fans to get behind the team.

The end of the season is just round the corner and we need to stick together all as one. UTB

There’s some lads think at the back of block 58 started songs that red faction would normally start off and get the whole stand chanting like after a goal so the atmospheres a bit disjointed but it’s been on slide since wilder left. Also red faction sing some songs that haven’t really every caught on lm sure there’s one ‘we are Boro super Boro’ could do with binning it. need a version of ‘oh wilder said’ for carrick. People who say it should just be left to wilder era probs don’t remember ‘follow follow follow’ used to be Tony Mowbray is king not stevie Gibson

Have always backed red faction and appreciated what they created in the south over the years (i.e stopped the Riverside from becoming a morgue).
However, sticking rigidly to songs that never caught on/ combined with the drum , can seem a bit counter productive as it competes with the songs that the rest of the south try to regenerate .
It's their perogative I guess, but when they do join in with songs emanating from the rest of the south it sounds great.
(From a SW upper perspective).

I don’t have any strong opinions other than that the banner thing once or twice a season would have impact, but when its every game it feels a bit meaningless.

I've had the same conversation with a few mates. This is the best football that most of us have watched, we all think Carrick is doing a great job and we have a very good chance of promotion this year yet the atmosphere at home is terrible. I honestly thought the atmosphere was going to be brilliant against Stoke and couldn't wait. We definitely need a few new songs that are easy for everyone to join in with to help the lads over the line.

The atmosphere at home isn't terrible because red faction try to introduce new songs. It's because most people just want to go to the match and not sing. If you miss the old songs just start singing them yourself. If you are loud enough some people will join in. As long as you are not in the east stand, or the west stand. Or the north stand.

I’m sure some of RF must be on here?
What’s the score lads?

My only fault is that they stick with songs that only 20 people sing and they sing songs for to long, 30 rounds of ‘everywhere we go’ is to many.

The main problem with the south stand is that people switch over there for the atmosphere then stand in silence and don’t contribute to it

RF08 are great they picked the club off from its knees and brought atmosphere and support at a time where the club was on its way out and fans were leaving in their droves. All this at a time where the club was telling fans to sit down and shut up! Lol

I think the legacy of that first generation of red factioners can be seen in the family zone, fan zone infact almost everything that has been done to improve the fan experience in the last 15 years.

The current crop seems to be is a little bit paint by numbers, the south stand feels recently disjointed and the Carrick song has not taken off.

New song is needed.. and I do think that the booing should be addressed (roofie defensive remarks incoming) - red faction is s great part of this club snd can be hugely influential and I believe was founded on the anti racism, anti fascism ticket (no roofie I’m not saying RF are booing or racist or responsible in any way)

Maybe it’s time for the club to show their support and acknowledge the hard work the group has done for the club in recent years.. perhaps even offer a helping hand.

I'm in block 60, one over from RF. It's almost impossible to get a chant going when they drum, because it just drowns you out. That's fine when they chant something people engage with, but at times this season they've come out with some absolute dross. I remember one game where they spent literally 20 minutes doing that awful "come on Middlesbrough thud thud thud EIOOOOOO thud thud thud" chant that even had some of the RF sitting down.

They started off in an empty stand watching a dying team, and what they did was amazing. Now they have several thousand passionate fans around them and they could use that to their advantage, creating an incredible atmosphere. Instead they just want to keep doing their own thing.

I'm hoping Yusuf's day out in the North Stand might be the start of that side coming back to life, and if it is then I'll switch across.

The first two were sung on Tuesday.

I'll add 'who's that team' ... to the list too

Not really practical in the GRFZ mind

For the record i hated the wilder song, given crooks and jones dont start games anymore it would have become obsolete anyhow

Everyone sings the Carrick song, even the mags have their own version

The mags have managed to murder the 'who's that team' song in their version.

EI EI EI O
Up the football league we go
When we get promoted
This is what we'll sing
We are the boro
Super boro
Carrick is the king

A lot of teams including Newcastle sing their own version but let's face it pretty much every other song is used by other teams.

Always sounds good when others sing it.

Thoughts?
