Feedback on new site thread

For clarification, all posts within a thread being visible on the one page.
Rob said elsewhere that one of the problems with performance on the old site was that there were so many threads per page. So I doubt there will be an option to increase this too much here.

The thing that irritates me is that the display seems to be inconsistent. Sometimes you get the first page. Sometimes you get the last.

The site usually takes you automatically to the first post you've not read on a thread if you've already been in it.
If it's a new thread, it starts you at the top of the first page.

OK. Ta. Now I understand. I could not work out how it was working.

I assume you mean *all posts on a thread visible on one page* & understand about the bandwith required but ... if you got rid of the stupid profile pictures, images embedded in the posts ... ;)

Right, have done that and logged in on one of the tabs. When I go to another tab it says I'm logged out, but when I try to log in then a shade drops down saying I'm already logged in. It doesn't take me back to the main page though. If I refresh that tab it does show me as logged in though.

Seems to be a Microsoft Edge problem. Internet Explorer keeps me logged in but I tend not to use that these days. Lot of people saying Edge does not remember log-ins/password details. I will se if I can find a solution.

Yep. Sorry I was not clear in description. On the old site there is no pagination of the posts in threads. On here there is.

If you do a count of the number of threads per page I think there are a few more on here. However, as you suggest you have to scroll more.

UPDATE: This does not seem to be 100% true. I have just been bouncing around all over the place on a recent thread. When I have looked at it and come back to it. Maybe there is something it does different if you have more than one tab open for the site? I was doing this as I was looking at profiles, searching for threads/posts and then commenting in multiple tabs on my browser.

I'm going purely off the mobile version, without tabs.
It's always been the case, the only time it gets slightly confusing in when the first new post is on a new page

Tabs are bound to be a different matter though as they don't refresh automatically and you'll end up with older versions of the site as you jump between them.

Update again. Still seems to be not going to the most recent page of posts I have seen every time I look at this thread.

Just went on a laptop to double check.
What happens is that if there are posts on a thread that you haven't seen, in which case the thread title will be in bold writing on the main page , clicking on the thread title will take you to the oldest unseen post automatically.
If you've seen every post in a thread, in which case the thread is no longer bolded on the main forum page, then clicking on the thread title will take you to the opening page and you'll have to manually navigate to the most recent post in the thread.

Ta for the info.

I’d like to see more thread titles on one page, like the old board
There are still around the same number of threads per page. You just have to scroll more.

The bigger difference is that the posts in each individual thread are now paginated. So if the thread has loads of posts they are displayed on separate pages (like threads are). The various Music threads are good examples.

Rob - I think you are going to get a lot of grief about the adverts within a thread. Especially the ones that pretend to be posts.

The good news is that on occasions the bottom advert appears to be below the reply box now.

Also I quite like the ads within youtube video posts. Not there all the time and not too intrusive. They must be a bonus for you.

Not sure ads in youtube videos will be paying me. I need to assess revenues from the ads within threads - I wonder if I can change their content. I will work on that.

Interesting.

So I am using Ad Block Plus on a Firefox Browser on my laptop. I have whitelisted your site so I see adverts on your site. I played a video from the music thread on your site. It showed adverts overlaying the youtube video.

I then played the same video in a separate tab on Firefox on the same laptop direct from youtube. That had no adverts. I then temporarily whitelisted youtube and the ads came through. In a similar way to on your site.

I did not realise at the time that by whitelisting your site I was contributing revenue to youtube. Sorry, I did not think about the issue enough to realise this.
