Burnley hit with transfer embargo

The club statement, not surprisingly, describes the situation as very much a technicality due to a change in auditors.

I recall the club and the new owners were in real financial difficulties due to the impact of relegation on the terms leveraged buy-out. Didn't they have to repay something like 40% immediately as a result of dropping out if the EPL.

I suspect there is more to this than the clubs media statement describes.

They should be docked points immediately as its not air on the others in the league, it has to count this season as it has been an advantage for them this year which is not correct, if Reading get docked points this year so should Burnley, if it was Boro we would be docked pending investigation it should be the same for all !

I'm sure Derby used a similar 'late filing' excuse in the beginning. I seem to recall them claiming they changed their accounting period which had a knock on effect on creating a late filing. It of course all came out in teh wash later that they were actually well in the crap.

dock them 15pts and they'd probably still win the league
Possibly. From the last 10 games they've got the exact same number of points as us.

It would add an extra tickle to the season (if any were needed) though and it's also quite possible that our match against them would then become a shootout for the title, with us having to win it to get it in the bag👍

Dif is they were still in football league.

Burnley will be in the prem the Wild West of football where rules don’t really exist. Look at city for proof of that.

Timing is everything. I guess the EFL might put their own statement out. Administration points deduction have to be by 26 March. I guess it would be the same for anything Burnley have done. So unlikely now. But if they got relegated again it would kick in.

There were reports of Burnley`s £60M debt before they were relegated and the issues this would create if they ended up in the Championship. Its clear that somehow this issue has resurfaced with only ten games to go and the likelyhood of a decision isnt going to happen until the season is over. How convenient?

Interesting they say they will do their submission next month. So they are definitely looking to avoid a points deduction this season. I imagine Gibson is on the phone to his lawyers. I'm sure they look forward to his calls. Get ready for Derby MkII.

If they have broken the rules the EFL should dock points now and if it gets overturned they can add them on next time they're in this league. Ridiculous if it has to wait until they are back in the EFL.

So basically the top two are under embargo. Shenanigans galore, sue the f$((ers
12 point deduction for the pair of them seems right and reasonable.

Burnley on 68 points and Sheffield on 55 points

Boro go into 2nd place, 5 points behind Burnley, Sheffield into 7th place 3 points behind Milwall

Luton would be hot on our heels but it would make for a more exiting end to the season.
