Can we catch Sheff Utd?

One game at a time boys, one game at a time.
Despite last week's blip we are playing brilliantly and didn't someone say that we put 5 wins on the bounce together before Sunderland beat us? Then wasn't it 6 on the bounce before last week?
If we keep that run going then it'll be hard for anyone to live with us.

Looking at their fixtures I reckon they've got enough winnable games to just get over the line.

If they drop points at Reading after seeing how bad Reading were today then I might change my mind. You'd imagine that would have a big psychological affect as well, dropping points against a side we just thrashed.

Hopefully they get to at least the semi final of the cup as well, that might take it's toll.

Thing is, Reading will be hurting after today and keen to make amends in the week.

Great result for us today but I think it also works in our favour for their game with Sheffield United.

While we're all hoping for a reaction from Reading after today, I'm not holding my breath.

I cling to the fact that they can't be as bad as they looked today and be in the comfortable position that they are.

Sheffield United have lost 3 of the last 4 and needed an own goal to beat Watford.

It's still possible.

Even if they win that game in hand, 7 points in 11 games isn't insurmountable, especially with their fixture pile-up.

Just look at the form tables below.
Compare our points differential to theirs on each tab and I think you'll be surprised how we've stepped on the gas.

So we **** up against Norwich then. No big deal if our form follows that trend. Only dropping 2 points to the end of the season Norwich won't be near us.

Please say that this trend continues onwards as that would have the Mighty Boro winning their 1st 4 on the bounce in the Prem😁🤣

We have taken 27 points from the last 11 matches.

They have taken 23 point from their last 12.

If we both repeat that form in the remaining fixtures, we'll be level on points, and I'd back us to overhaul their GD
I love this stat. With them having to potentially drop 4 points on us would require us to win 2 games that they even drew say. How many think of we won those games they would both be only by the single goal?🤣 And our goals for column certainly won't be an issue, in the event of a tie 👍

Well here are a couple more details.

Over those 12 games, their GD is +7
Over the last 11 games ours in +16.

Repeated form over the same periods would see us take it on GD.

If Sheffield Utd win on Tuesday, this form guide still works: they will have taken 20 points from the last 11, so 27 from our last 11 would still be enough.

11 games to go. In the last 11 games we have gained 27 points, scoring 25 and conceding 9

Sheff utd have 12 left, their last 12 games have yielded 23 points, scoring 19 and conceding 11.

On current form we will finish level on points, but ahead of them with a 5 better goal difference.

They have a harder run in than us, but need to improve their form or hope our drops to overhaul us. They might have the points in the bag, but the second place race is officially on and momentum is with us.

They have not won away in the league for 4 games and their next 4 are;

Reading
Sunderland
Burnley
Norwich

It’s possible we can catch them, their fans are worried.
I'd fancy Burnley and Norwich to take points off of them. If Mowbray gets his act together too I'd strongly fancy Sunderland to take points off them too given their slim hopes finishing in the playoffs.

Reading last 5 homes games: W D D W W.
Sheff UTD last 5 away games: W D D L L.

For Incey’s reference the Referee is Dean Whitestone!

Bookmark 18th March. They are playing in the FA Cup and if results go right that could be the day we go past them.
They will of course have a game in hand.
