Cannot believe that The Crown that was only purchased by the council last week would be one of the assets that would be transferred to the new MDC if it goes ahead. They paid £75000 for it.Absolute waste of time and money.
Most of them are ceremonial mayors, only Middlesbrough has an executive mayor from that list.Middlesbrough Mayor
Stockton Mayor
Yarm Mayor
Thornaby Mayor
Billingham Mayor
Do we need so many in such a small area.
Shithead, Lodger? I find it distasteful enough that you use this forum as your personal campaigning platform but the pathetic name-calling is a new low even for you. Every time a politician is murdered in this country we have a few weeks of promises to take the nastiness out of politics and then some people can't help reverting to type.Good question.
We don't need a mayor of Middlesbrough.
Question should have been is, why do we have a mayor of Middlesbrough.
The constitution allows a residents referendum, which must be held a minimum of 10 years apart to change the make up of the council
10 years ago, Ray Mallon (remember him) said we should have a referendum on whether we should have a mayor or just a council leader.
The Labour group campaigned heavily, we did market stalls and paid for a leaflet to all houses in the town to abolish the mayors position.
A chap named Andrew Preston campaigned to keep the position of elected Mayor and stated he wasn't interested in the post personally, but believed that someone should be responsible for what the council did.
He won, and put up for every election since, losing the first one to Dave Budd.
He won the next and the rest is history, but even as mayor, he has never accepted responsibility for what the council does, even tonight after 4 years he chose to be a shithead and blamed council officers for the mess he has got the council in.
The 10 year rule ends this autumn.
I shall be campaigning to abolish the position of elected mayor this autumn and demand we have a referendum on that question!
I shall do so and say that now, before the election of the new mayor this May. We have a great chance of winning and ending with a Labour Mayor, regardless I will be campaigning to remove that position because as proved; absolute power corrupts ....
It is so obvious the mayors media team are using the platform.Shithead, Lodger? But do they still get a wage from it!!Most of them are ceremonial mayors, only Middlesbrough has an executive mayor from that list.
1. No idea, I know 2 are very ill, 2 was covid positive, 1 was out the country, don't know about the rest.A few questions lodger.
1. Why did 9 members not turn up to the meeting last night to approve the budget and who are the members?
2. Why did the labour members vote abstain and not no to the budget costs?
3. Who authorised £750k purchase of the Crown?
Blaming your staff for the mess of the council is a s***y thing to do.Shithead, Lodger? Middlesbrough mayor does, the rest might give them a higher allowance, depending on each councils constitution. But do they still get a wage from it!!
In Stockton the mayoral allowance is £15k, it's ceremonial and generally involves going to events but also attending meetings and having a casting vote. A new mayor is elected every year by the councillorsBut do they still get a wage from it!!
How on earth can you book a holiday when voting through a budget. People need to be named and shamed and kicked out at the ballot box. If you don’t support why not vote no and offer an alternative.1. No idea, I know 2 are very ill, 2 was covid positive, 1 was out the country, don't know about the rest.
2. We abstained because we couldn't support the budget, the budget had to have a majority of the meeting for, so abstaining was the sensible thing.
3. That will have been the mayor, indeed he has said so on his social media platforms.
As I keep saying. How on earth can you book a holiday when voting through a budget. People need to be named and shamed and kicked out at the ballot box. If you don’t support why not vote no and offer an alternative.
Surely a £750k purchase needs to be approved by the members?
