The club is further showing its support for the community on Teesside with the installation of permanent foodbanks at the Riverside Stadium.
Temporary foodbanks have been a regular feature in recent years, but the club is stepping up its efforts to support those who need it most and will be working closely with Middlesbrough Foodbank.
Supported by the Trussell Trust, Middlesbrough Foodbank provided close to 7,000 food parcels in 2019 – aiding more than 2,500 children – and we’re hoping the permanent presence of foodbanks at the Riverside will further support the cause.
Boro CEO Neil Bausor said: “As a club, we see ourselves at the heart of the community and have an important role to play. The installation of permanent foodbanks at the stadium was important to us because it means we can offer continuous support via the generosity and community spirit of both our supporters and our staff. Hopefully we can make a difference and help.”
Soroush Sadeghzadeh, Project Manager of Middlesbrough Foodbank, said: “I’d like to thank everyone involved in organising the permanent foodbank collection points at the Riverside Stadium.
“With the increased demand, we need the continued support of the community in order to support those in crisis. I’m in awe of the spirit of community and generosity that allows us to feed those in the community who would otherwise go hungry.
“It’s heart-breaking to know that between January and December 2019, close to 7,000 people needed a food parcel, yet so heart-warming to know that through the support of the community, we were able to provide emergency food parcels for them.
“This support not only provides emergency food, but also restores hope and dignity in the lives of those who are unable to afford the basics.”
Dael Fry and Lewis Wing were the first to make donations to one of the permanent foodbanks at the stadium.
The foodbanks are placed in the Riverside Stadium Club Shop, the Ticket Office, and at the Herlingshaw Centre, where MFC Foundation are based. Fans, visitors, and staff are asked to donate non-perishable goods, such as tins and packet food.
