CMAT – “AW, SHOOT!”......................this is great.

Irish iconoclast CMAT is back with this very catchy new single. “So there I was, in Paris, France, in a rented flat,” CMAT says. “I was trying to write songs but it wasn’t going very well at all. I was drinking three bottles of wine a day (Cote du Provence) and I didn’t have any human contact for maybe two weeks, and I was going a little bit crazy, voices in my head etc etc. One evening there was a knock at the door. Who could it be?! I opened the door to find an American girl, who said the following: “Oh! You’re not my friend!” and then turned and walked away. Turns out she got the floors mixed-up, American system vs European flooring system. This was actually a seminal plot point in my favourite tv show Emily in Paris. And then? Well, I properly lost my mind. But on the bright side, I got a banger out of it!”

GUM / AMBROSE KENNY-SMITH – “ILL TIMES”

King Gizzard’s Ambrose Kenny-Smith and GUM (aka Jay Watson of Pond and Tame Impala) have announced collaborative album Ill Times which is out on July 19 via King Gizzard’s just-launched label, p(doom).

MACKLEMORE – “HIND’S HALL”.......................not on Spotify..............................Wow great track. Very powerful song and sentiments.

In the midst of the Kendrick Lamar/Drake beef Macklemore dropped a diss track of his own, but his is aimed at Palestine, Joe Biden, the police that have been breaking up pro-Palestine protests, and anyone else supporting Israel’s attacks against Palestine. “I want a ceasefire, **** a response from Drake,” he raps. The song is called “Hind’s Hall,” named after Columbia University’s Hamilton Hall, which protesters renamed Hind’s Hall in honor of Hind Rajab, a 6-year-old Palestinian girl who was killed by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF). The song is only currently up on Macklemore’s Twitter, but he says he’ll be donating all proceeds to UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees) once it’s on streaming services.

Sample lyrics: “When I was seven, I learned a lesson from Cube and Eazy-E/What was it again? Oh yeah, **** the police.” “You can pay off Meta, you can’t pay off me… You can ban TikTok, take us out the algorithm.” “We see the lies in them, claimin’ it’s antisemitic to be anti-Zionist/I’ve seen Jewish brothers and sisters out there and ridin’ in/Solidarity and screamin’ ‘Free Palestine’ with them.” “Occupyin’ the quad is really against the law/And a reason to call in the police and their squad/Where does genocide land in your definition, huh?” “The blood is on your hands, Biden, we can see it all/And **** no, I’m not voting for you in the fall.”

Tom Morello praised the song, saying, “Honestly @macklemore’s ‘Hind’s Hall’ is the most Rage Against The Machine song since Rage Against The Machine.”
