Rogers

Rogers = Play Offs?

I think Azaz has out performed Rogers in terms of goal involvements/minute in the league.

OK, I don't think Azaz was bought as a replacement for Rogers: both could have played. But there's no guarantee they would, or that the balance of the team would have been right.

Plus I accept Rogers was maturing rapidly and might have outperformed Azaz if he'd stayed.

So who can say? I still don't think it's worth throwing a lot of money at the chance of finishing 5th or 6th. If you're in those places, great, but they don't really give you a good chance of promotion.

The commentary last night mentioned that apparently John McGinn raves about him.
Says he can’t believe they signed him at that price and that it was a steal, in other words they’ve had our eyes out.
The players have really taken to Morgan and are impressed by his work off the ball, they think they have got a real top notch talent on their hands, so good luck to the lad.

It is the same old problem: there is only so much money that can be charged for a player not proven in the Prem. Once they are, then their price is minimum £50m.
Villa took a punt on Rogers and it looks good, at the moment. But then we also sold Spence for good money and look how that turned out for Spurs.

The best add on would be a decent percentage of any sell on. I'm talking 20%. I mean City had a 20% clause when we signed him. You'd think at the price we sold him for wed have added a shed load of decent clauses.

Villa are not big enough to knock back ridiculous bids from the elite. Watkins has been linked with Arsenal this week. So hopefully money to be made if the really big spenders come calling.

I would be suprised if some of the deal will have either wiped out or altered payments etc on the Azaz deal. They must have used him as part of the deal (although purchased before Rogers left). I doubt we paid the whole transfer fee up front. I'm sure I read they'd added a significant sell on for Azaz?

It’s just the nature of us being the small selling club and them being a champions league chasing big club. We got a good deal, nobody could have foreseen him having an instant first 11 impact but he has. Fair play to him it’s took everyone by surprise. We have good add ons in place for this scenario so we will get more. Ultimately we 10x our investment in 5 months that’s pretty good.

I don't know if we have one or not.

However, add ons always go hand in glove with take offs. The more add ons you negotiate, the lower the upfront fee. That's why we got MR from city for only £1m

I don't think I'd have wanted to give up more of MR's upfront fee for any more clauses, even if it currently looks like a amble that might pay off.

We didnt get a good deal at all. Plenty on here were saying it was way undervalue at the time. The fact that villa are laughing about the price it tells you we dropped the ball.

Excellent player Rogers. Sublime talent.

His critics have went awfully quiet these days 🤣🤣🤣

Most articles you read about his transfer say £8 million plus up to another £7 million in add ons.
He's playing regularly, scored a few and made a couple. Villa are in a European qualifying spot. To get the top fee he will probably have to achieve all the above and Villa qualify for the champions league.
Don't know how many seasons they can spread this over or if it has to be the season he moved to them ?
